Along the Mousterlin Dune

Enjoy a peaceful stroll along the dune, on the sea side on the way there and the lagoon side on the way back.
A breath of fresh sea air guaranteed.
The route changes with the tide, especially in the lagoon.
Please note: walking on the beach can be tiring.

The rear of the dune between WP and is closed by municipal decree until the end of August to protect nesting areas.
(4) A breach has formed in the dune.

Description of the walk

Access: Leave Fouesnant via the D45 towards Beg Meil and pass the D44 towards Bénodet on your right.
At the next roundabout, turn right onto the D145 which leads to Pointe de Mousterlin. Before the point, turn left to park in the car park near the Camping le Grand Large

(S/E). With your back to the car park, take the coastal road that runs along the seafront and arrive at the municipal port of Mousterlin.

(1) Turn right onto the road, then left near the Hôtel de la Pointe and take the first path between the pine trees to reach a memorial to 17 civilians who were shot on 15 May 1944, including seven members of the Pen-Ar-Pont resistance.

(2) Descend to the hotel and then climb back up to the top of the dune via the path. A little further on, descend to the beach and follow it in a north-westerly direction.
Pass the rockfill area designed to consolidate the dune massif and continue on. Leave the various paths leading to the car parks on your right.

(3) Reach the access point to Kerler Beach, where the lifeguard station is located. Continue in the same direction.
A sign indicates the start of the naturist area, which stretches for 1 km. Continue to the breach that was created in the dune during Storm Justine in February 2021.

(4) Go past this breach and arrive at the end of the dune where the sea meets the lagoon.

(5) Go around this point, pass the breach on the lagoon side and find a passage allowing you to walk on the dune to begin the return journey along the lagoon area called the Mer Blanche.

(6) Descend and follow the stabilised path that borders the lagoon, where you can observe numerous birds.
Pass by the car parks at the Kerler Beach access area, continue on and reach the end of the lagoon area.

(7) Pass by the various car parks and reach the Hôtel de la Pointe. Turn right at the road and head towards Mousterlin harbour.

(1) Follow the same route back to the Grand Large car park (S/E).

Notes

Toilets are available at the car park at the start of the walk, at Mousterlin harbour and at Kerler Beach (3).
Along the route, you will notice tide bins used to store waste from the sea. They should not be used as regular rubbish bins.

For this route, it is best to choose a time when the beach is not too crowded.
Over a distance of 1 km, signs indicate the area: "Naturist beach authorised from 1 May to 31 October, from 10 a.m. to sunset".

When the tide is high, it is possible to walk along the top of the dune.
At various points, there are paths allowing you to cross from the sea side to the lagoon side (which is more sheltered).

Worth a visit

The Mousterlin dune is in fact a coastal spit, as a wide channel allows the sea to penetrate twice a day and flood 140 hectares of mudflats: the Mer Blanche. Here we have an extraordinary landscape of coastal marshes. A rich but discreet marine fauna (plankton, bivalves and marine worms buried in the sand...) coexists with a large number of birds that find their food here.
