Description of the walk

(S/E) Set off from the landing stage. Walk past the nature reserve centre and join the main track.

(1) Turn right just before the huts along the track. Climb gently up above Cala Lado, the small cove where the landing stage is located. Pass a picnic area near a viewpoint (closed in April 2019) and continue along a narrower, stony path that passes beneath a tower.
After a short climb, where you may spot plenty of lizards, rejoin the main track.

(2) Continue along the track, turning right. Follow it along the cliff-top path until you reach the Far de Tramunatana.

(3) From the lighthouse, there’s a lovely view of the Far Vell, the island’s highest peak, as well as the west coast of Mallorca and the start of the Serra de Tramuntana. Then retrace your steps back to the crossroads near the tower.

(2) Continue straight on along the track until you reach the Cala Llado track.

(1) Head down to the landing stage just below (S/E).

This hike is not recommended for people with herpetophobia (fear of reptiles, particularly lizards).

Worth a visit

During the walk, children will be delighted to spot lizards. Otherwise, there are lovely views of the Mallorcan coast and the foothills of the Serra de Tramuntana.

From the same starting point, you can climb to the island’s highest point, Far Vell (349m). Allow around 2 to 3 hours.

A lovely, very easy walk in the company of plenty of unafraid lizards. Magnificent views from the tip of the island, taking in both the summit of the island and Far Vell, as well as the west coast of Mallorca and the foothills of the Serra de Tramuntana.
There’s not much shade, so do remember to take water and a hat… it’s a nature reserve, so there are no shops where you can buy water.
The boat crossing from Sant Elm is a lovely trip; it costs €14 per person and includes a €1 fee for entry to the park. The ferry operator will ask you what time you’d like to leave the island (to manage the number of passengers in relation to the boat’s capacity).
More experienced walkers can follow this up with one of the other two routes on the island…
