Description of the walk

Park in front of the Temple, near the town hall.

(S/E) Cross the D104 and head down to the left, then right, to cross the bridge over the Ouvèze and turn left onto the road towards Les Celliers.

(1) Head up to the right onto the small tarmac road, which also forms part of theGR®42marked in red and white. Once you reach a wider road, turn onto the path on the right to cut across the final hairpin bend. You will arrive at the Col de Linte.

(2) Continue downhill along the road until you soon reach a path junction before the hamlet of Linte.

(3) Leave theGR® here, turn right and continue on a very gentle climb. Stay on this path to reach the junction with the track coming from the hamlet of La Charonde. Continue straight ahead.

(4) Turn right and climb up to reach the edge of the cliff. Enjoy the view of Saint-Julien-en-Saint-Alban from here. Continue westwards, passing close to a pylon, then begin a short descent to reach the junction with the Auches track.

(5) Take the path on the right. Descend via a series of hairpin bends, enjoying a fine view of the Cluniac chapel of Saint Julien to the north. Continue, following the Ruisseau de la Marche, then cross the hamlet of Contrevent before reaching the vicinity of Fort Mahon.

(6) Leave the path that branches off to the left and take a narrow track, descending onto the road that goes round the buildings at Mure on the right. Join the D104 road.

(7) Turn right onto it, taking care of the traffic, to reach the car park at the Flaviac temple (S/E).

A lovely walk. Watch out for herding dogs (Patous) after the Col de Linthe.

A lovely walk overall

The route description for the final few metres could do with being amended to avoid walking alongside the main road, as it is possible to reach the village centre of Saint Julien en Saint Alban via smaller, less busy and more pleasant roads.

A very pleasant walk: it’s quite a steep climb at the start, followed by a beautiful plateau with a lovely, picturesque path (unfortunately the weather was cloudy and we only caught a glimpse of the view towards the Rhône); then a final short climb to cross over to the other side, followed by a gentle descent towards the Ouvèze. Do take the time to visit the beautifully restored Cluniac chapel at Les Roberts (picnic table), then walk through the village of St Julien en St Alban via the narrow streets to avoid the very noisy road to Privas.

This is a challenging hike; signposts are often missing or partially worn away. Beautiful views
