This hike, which starts at the Sainte-Philomène Chapel, offers beautiful views of the plain to the east as far as the Hyères Islands. To the south-west, beyond the Col de la Bigue, it is bordered by the Cuers hills.

Description of the walk

From Cuers or Puget-Ville, take the D40 to the car park near the Sainte-Philomène Chapel.

(S/E) From the car park, return to the D40 and follow it to the right until you reach the beautiful DFCI track, which climbs to the left.

(1) Follow it to the next fork (elevation 452).

(2) Take the track on the right uphill and reach the fork after the second hairpin bend, on a small plateau.

(3) Continue on the track to the left, which goes around the small hill of Rossignol (516 m), then continue downhill towards the north until you reach a three-way junction (elevation 410).

(4) Turn onto the path on the left which descends steeply into a small valley, joining the tarmac road and the GR®9.

(5) Follow the small road on the left towards the south to reach a four-way crossroads.

(6) Continue straight ahead and climb gently up a track to the Col de la Bigue.

(7) Ignore the district road on the right and continue on the road on the left until the next intersection (elevation 452).

(8) Leave the track that climbs and continue on the one on the left until you reach the fork you encountered on the way there.

(2) Continue to the right, downhill, and join the D40, enjoying the beautiful views.

(1) Turn right and continue for about 300 metres.

(9) Leave the road and take the path on the left which descends to the Sainte-Philomène Chapel.

(10) After enjoying the site, return to the car park either by the road or by a small path that branches off to the right through the woods (S/E).

Notes

(3) From the plateau, you can take a short round trip along a tiny path to reach the small cross at the top of Rossignol and enjoy a beautiful view.

(10) Unfortunately, the Sainte-Philomène Chapel is closed most of the time. If you are lucky enough to find someone there, take the opportunity to visit it. Recently restored, it is magnificent. Don't forget to leave a few coins for its upkeep.

This hike is not technically difficult, but you will need to wear good walking shoes. There are no water sources along the route.

A relatively easy walk. It ends at the Chapel of St Philomena, where you can enjoy a superb view of the plain stretching between Cuers, Pierrefeu and Puget-Ville. Just right for me.
