Description of the walk

Park at the Cuers cemetery.

(S/E) Follow Route de Valcros, skirting the cemetery and passing under the aqueduct. A few metres further on, you’ll reach the junction at the corner of the cemetery.

(1) Go straight on for about fifty metres, then turn right onto the tarmac road to Saint-Eutrope. Ignore the two roads on the right and continue straight on, ignoring the access roads to the houses, until you reach a three-way junction.

(2) Turn left (still on the Chemin de l’Europe). Very soon, take a small dirt track (on the right) which runs alongside a stream on the right. At the next junction, take the track on the left called Chemin des Régagnades and begin a fairly long climb. After two hairpin bends, you’ll come to a crossroads.

(3) Turn right, cross the Hautes Sambalettes and reach a junction at a hairpin bend facing the Ubac de Capus.

(4) Turn right, then, after the next hairpin bend, turn right onto the small dirt track that climbs through the scrub: please note that this track does not appear on the IGN map. Pass the ruins, continue to join the main track, turning right to reach the apiès. The path is fairly flat and, after a while, leads down a slope and up a sort of stone staircase before reaching the apiès.

(5) Retrace your steps and continue straight on until you reach the metal chest. Then turn right to follow a long, pleasant climb leading to the Vallon du Réal.

(6) Continue left to reach a track junction with a DFCI water tank. Turn left and you will soon reach a junction with a small dirt track.

(7) Follow this path downhill to the right to reach a panoramic viewpoint.

(8) Return to the previous junction.

(7) Turn right, pass through Les Cabrides and continue downhill. Walk alongside a fence at one point and then reach the Pérussier junction.

(9) Take the long path through the woods opposite to reach a junction near the hamlet of Roumégoux.

(10) Turn left, cross the Rénégon stream. Continue along this path until you reach the hamlet of Valcros.

(11) Walk past the church, then turn right to reach the village oven. Then turn left to take the steps leading uphill. Take the small path almost directly opposite, which climbs steeply.

;;12:: At the junction, follow the concrete road straight ahead for a short distance until you reach a three-way junction. Take the small wooded path that climbs (the middle path), then turn left to stay in the woodland. You’ll reach a crossroads of paths near a cistern.

(13) Keep to the right, then take the path on the left. At the T-junction, turn right, keep left a few dozen metres further on, then head downhill to the Couestés crossroads.

(14) Take the path on the left to reach Notre-Dame de Santé.

(15) After visiting the site, turn back and continue right along Rue des Chapelles, a downhill street. Turn left at the junction, taking Rue des Manants. At the next junction, head straight on into Rue Graponnière and then turn left into Lou Camin de Valcros to reach the junction with Route de Valcros, which you passed on the way out.

(1) Turn right and walk back along the same route to return to the cemetery car park (S/E).

After the apiés, the path to the pass is a stream at this time of year.

A lovely hike.
You should allow for an extra 100 m of elevation gain.

A brilliant hike along paths and trails with very few stones – a rarity in this region! Plenty of shade, except at the start, which is much appreciated.
Point 4: couldn’t find the start of the path without GPS. There’s a path that starts before point 4, shown on IGN maps, which I think is better as it avoids part of the DFCI track.
The fork to the right at the metal box is easy to find... provided the box hasn’t disappeared or been moved...
Point 7: at the start, it’s a track rather than a path. The path is then overgrown, and GPS is useful for reaching the viewpoint over Belgentier. A viewpoint well worth the effort.
In short, I thoroughly enjoyed this hike.
