In the village of Gourgas, park in the hiking car park, which is signposted.
(S/E) From the car park, walk downhill and pass in front of the castle. Immediately after, take the path that climbs to the right (yellow markings) and, after the second house, take the path on the left along a wire fence. Continue climbing until you reach a path that you must take to the right for about a hundred metres, then turn onto the path on the left (yellow markings).
(1) At the T-junction, turn left and follow this path uphill (remember to close the gates behind you) to reach the junction with theGR®® 653 variant.
(2) Turn right and start the climb. Keep left twice and continue climbing to reach a cistern and a forest track.
(3) Take this track to the right, climbing for about 150 metres, then turn onto a path to the right (cairn).
(4) Turn onto a path on the right: you are now at the start of the Larzac plateau with a magnificent view of Gourgas and Lodévois. Continue to follow the path, which is sometimes close to the cliffs (be careful). You will come to a fenced section of the trail where you may encounter a herd of cows or goats, depending on the season. The owner has left passages specifically for hikers. After passing a large building on your right, you will arrive at the hamlet of La Roque and a cross.
(5) Turn right onto a wide path that enters a pine forest.
(6) Continue to the right for a few dozen metres, then take a path on the left that winds down in tight bends along the Ruisseau de Fanaudrac, which is usually dry (markings). At the end of the path, you will come to a track.
(7) Follow it in the same direction to go around the Pioch Blanc, making a circular loop to the right and arriving at a fork.
(8) Leave thePR®® on your left, which also leads to the village of Gourgas, and follow the track on the right (marked all the way) to reach the superb forest path that passes below the cliffs you walked along earlier on the plateau. The location is magnificent. At the end, you will rejoin theGR®®653a few metres before the fork.
(2). Then turn left and descend via the same route you took on the way up, which will take you to Gourgas and the car park at the start (S/E).
