The Canadian cemetery in Dieppe and Pourville beach from Offranville

Hike starting from Offranville, passing through the Bois de la Londe. At Le Hamelet (in the commune of Saint-Aubin-sur-Scie), there is a short, physically demanding climb up the Chemin des Jonquilles to reach the Canadian military cemetery in Dieppe in the hamlet of Les Vertus. Then descend towards Petit-Appeville, across fields via Les Bruyères, with lovely views of the Scie valley. Follow the greenway at Hautot-sur-Mer to Pourville-sur-Mer and its beach. The return journey is via the Bois d'Hautot and the greenway to Offranville. In Offranville, if you still have some energy left, visit the William Farcy floral park.

Description of the walk

Parking is available at the Grand Place Jean Dasnias car park.

(S) When leaving the car park, turn right.

(1) At the crossroads, cross Rue Loucheur on the right-hand side, continue straight ahead into Rue Jéhan Véron, and pass in front of the town hall. Then pass in front of the church and you will come to a T-junction.

(2) Turn right and then left onto Rue Jacques Emile Blanche. Cross Rue Guynemer on your left.

(3) About 100 metres further on, turn left onto the greenway. Cross the road and continue until you reach a cemetery on your left.

(4) Continue straight ahead on the greenway for about 400 metres.

(5) Then turn right onto a downhill path. At the T-junction, turn left. Walk through the woods. Then descend into open ground and you will soon reach an intersection with a paved road on your right.

(6) Then turn left onto a grassy path. At the fork that appears shortly after, take the left path. Go through the tunnel under the greenway. At the T-junction on the other side, turn right.

(7) Return to the greenway and follow it to the left for about 200 m.

(8) Leave the greenway and take a narrow path on the left. You will soon come to a small road (Chemin Cavée du Hamelet), which you should follow to the right. Pass under the greenway. At the T-junction, turn right, cross the Scie river, then cross the railway line at the level crossing.

(9) At the three-way junction that appears immediately, turn left onto Rue des Violettes. At the next fork, keep right.

(10) When the road turns right, continue straight ahead on a path. Climb steadily. At the top, rejoin the tarmac (Chemin des Jonquilles) and continue straight ahead to the Canadian cemetery.

(11) Cross a road and continue along the path opposite. After about 50 metres, turn left just after a fence. Pass under a high-voltage power line and descend, following a few bends.

(12) Ignore a path coming from the left and enter Petit Appeville. At the crossroads, continue straight ahead and cross the railway line. You will come out onto the D925. Follow it to the left for about 30 metres.

(13) Cross the road at the traffic lights. On the other side, go down the steps on the left. At the bottom, turn left onto Rue du Paradis. Go straight ahead and cross the bridge over the Scie. Continue straight ahead until the next junction.

(14) Follow Rue de la Mer to the right.

(15) At the pumping station, continue straight ahead on the road (D153). Pass a campsite on your right and continue along the road.

(20) Shortly after a restaurant, take the first left, Rue Léonce Grau. Pass the memorial to the Canadians and continue straight ahead.

(21) Join the main road (Chapelle Saint-Thomas-de-Cantorbéry on your left) and follow it to the right. After about 100 metres, cross the road at the pedestrian crossing and follow it to the right for about 30 metres.

(22) At the fork, turn left onto Rue de la Mer. Ignore the street on the left and return to the starting point of the boardwalk you took earlier.

(17) Continue straight ahead for about 50 metres.

(16) Then turn left onto Chemin du Bois d'Hautot.

(23) After about 250 metres, leave the street and take a path on the right. At the fork that appears shortly afterwards, keep left. At the next fork, turn left again.

(24) At the barrier, turn right. The path climbs in a wide curve to the left. Join another path, follow it to the right and you will soon reach a crossroads in Bernouville.

(25) Keep left on Rue de Bernouville. At the end of the paved road, at the foot of a water tower, continue along a path. Descend steadily and return to the crossroads you passed on the way there.

(15) Follow Rue de la Mer on the right.

(14) Continue straight ahead and cross the D925 at the traffic lights. Continue opposite, along Rue de la Gare. Keep going straight ahead, ignoring the streets and lanes on your right.

(26) Just before the entrance to a tunnel under the railway line, turn right onto the greenway that runs parallel to the street. Head south, then south-east and finally south-south-east. Cross a street and you will come to the intersection you took on the way there.

(8) Continue straight ahead along the greenway.

(7) Continue straight ahead along the greenway.

(5) Continue along the greenway and walk alongside the cemetery on your right.

(27) Take the first road on the right, Rue des Forrières du Ris. Continue straight ahead, ignoring four turnings on the left, and pass under a dovecote.

(28) Turn left onto Rue Charles Péguy. At the T-junction, turn left and then right onto Rue Albert Camus. This road soon turns left and ends at a T-junction opposite a nursery school.

(29) Follow Avenue de la Hêtraie on the right and walk alongside the school on your left. At the corner, turn left onto Rue Thurmaston.
