Towards the banks of the Viaur and Lagarde Viaur from Saint-André-de-Najac

Starting from the village of Saint-André de Najac, passing through woods, meadows and hamlets, you will discover the banks of the Viaur on a pleasant loop to the village of Lagarde Viaur, which is well worth a visit.

Description of the walk

Park in the car park at the town hall in Saint-André-de-Najac.

Hiking trail no. 5

(S/E) Head towards the church.

(1) Turn left onto Chemin de l'Orée du Bois and follow for approximately 1.3 km.

(2) When you reach a cross, take the road on the left until you reach the departmental road. Turn right and follow the Lagarde Viaur road (D239) until you reach a building on the right. Then turn left and follow the small winding path through the woods to the banks of the Viaur.

(3) Turn left to follow the river on the right bank. Pass the Roc de Corb (climbing site) and continue for several kilometres. Cross the Gourpassou campsite and arrive at the RD69.

(4) Turn right, cross the Vicasse bridge (boundary marker between the Tarn and Aveyron rivers). After the bridge, turn right and take the GRP® des Gorges du Viaur (yellow and red markings) until you reach a small road that climbs to the left.

(5) Leave the GRP® and continue along the Viaur for 2.5 km.

(6) Ignore the path on the left leading to Baute Basse and continue along the Viaur. Pass the ruins of houses and small inhabited chalets (private property) before coming to a small road.

(7) Continue straight ahead until you reach the entrance to the village of Lagarde Viaur.

(8) Continue right towards the bridge over the Viaur. Cross it and take the small road on the left, pass the crêperie La Châtaigneraie and continue for a few metres.

(9) Go up to the right along Chemin du Colombier and continue along the Viaur until you reach a three-way junction.

(10) Leave the Viaur. Climb up the dirt track on the right through the forest until you reach a small road at a bridge.

(11) Turn right until you reach a hairpin bend, then turn right onto the path. Continue until you reach a T-junction and turn left.

(12) When you reach a small road, turn right and cross the hamlet of La Séverie.

(13) At the exit, after a large farm, at the junction with another road, turn left onto the road leading to Saint-André-de-Najac. Pass the hamlet of Le Combal (lodge) and descend to a cross.

(14) Continue right to the village and the initial fork.

(1) Continue straight ahead and return to the car park (S/E).

Hello ;-)
First of all, thank you for discovering this walk and for your comment.
Signpost number 5
was updated last March on the website and on the ground, but unfortunately in May and June, the vegetation grew rapidly and covered a number of markers, especially along the two banks of the Viaur River.

We didn't put many markers in this section because it's almost impossible to get lost as there are few paths other than the one signposted, and we also wanted to avoid overloading the area as it is a beautiful, unspoilt natural site
(we will return as soon as possible to update the signposts)

As for the sign at point 10, we don't really know why it's there because there is no danger in this section and it is accessible without any problems or difficulties!

That's why the detailed description is a supplement to the map, the GPX track and the signposts!

Once again, many thanks
and maybe we'll see you soon on one of the other trails in the village.
Best regards and happy hiking!
Pascal

An easy hike to stretch your legs during hot weather (much of the route is shaded, except for the last section of the climb back up to the village of Saint André).
Lagarde Viaur is well worth a visit, and in season you can enjoy a meal at the Crêperie La Châtaigneraie at the foot of the village.
As the signposting is not comprehensive, it is best to follow the GPX track.
At the start of point 10, when you are supposed to "climb up the dirt track through the forest on the right", we found a red metal sign warning that use of this path was at your own risk. It did not specify whether this applied to walkers or motorised vehicles. We decided to take the track a little further on, which leads to Granouillet and rejoins the route at point 11. We found the same warning sign at the other end of the mysterious path...
