Parking opposite the church in Aïssey. Good quality yellow and blue signposting.
(S/E) Facing the modern church (not very attractive), go up to the right towards the main road, then turn left to the old wash house and go up to the right onto Chemin de la Chapelle.
(1) Walk to the chapel on the right to see its old statues, then continue uphill along this beautiful sunken path passing under rocks.
(2) If you look closely, you will see the imprints of old cart wheels engraved in the rocks along the path.
(3) At the Aïssey 36 forest sign, a crossroads in the shape of an X, take the left-hand path uphill. You will soon reach a beautiful stone road, which you will take to the left. Continue to the small tarmac road, which you will follow downhill to the D464.
(4) Continue along the gravel path opposite. It ends at a barrier. Enter the pasture through the chicane on the left and cross it lengthwise, following the left-hand edge. Enjoy beautiful views of Passavant hill and its bell tower.
(5) At the end of the pasture, climb over the fence using a small step (perhaps a chicane under construction). You will arrive at the Calvaire de Rochandeux on its artificial rock built in 1888 and a viewpoint over the Val d'Aïssey - Saint-Juan and the mountains overlooking the Doubs valley.
Descend back into the valley via the pretty winding path to the left of the barrier (facing the valley), passing the stations of a rural Way of the Cross. At the bottom of the rocks, go up the small tarmac road on the right.
(6) Shortly after passing under the high-voltage power line, at the hunting car park, turn left onto the beautiful forest path. You will come to a gravel path which you will follow downhill to the left to Saint-Juan.
(7) After the first house in the village, turn left onto Rue du Chalet, then right onto Rue de la Mairie. Head left towards the fountain with its kitsch repainted lion and the old fire pump. Visit the church to see its Stations of the Cross and numerous paintings.
(8) Head back towards the town hall and turn left, going around the church and past a beautiful old house, the former presbytery. Continue to the next crossroads and turn right downhill towards the Ferme de Chèvrembois.
(9) When this small but peaceful tarmac road enters the woods, leave it and continue straight on along the beautiful forest path that joins the old Roman road, where you will turn left. You will pass some beautiful large sinkholes characteristic of our karstic Franche-Comté region.
(10) At the beautifully named "La Cave au Lièvre" (Hare's Cave), turn right onto the small tarmac road, then right again at the next junction until you reach the village. Pass under the sports ground, then immediately turn left to reach the car park (S/E).
