In Roche-lez-Beaupré, after turning left off the RD 983, take Rue des Hôtes towards Novillars. At the stop sign, turn left onto Rue des Vaufressons, then onto Promenade de la Cototte. You’ll reach a square just at the entrance to the woods where you can leave your car.
(S/E) Take (for 10 metres) the path that climbs opposite the “Promenade de la Cototte”, then immediately (behind the “no vehicles” sign), the path that branches off diagonally to the right (north-west). Follow this path until it turns left at a right angle.
(1) Turn right onto the lovely, gently ascending path through the woodland, heading north-west. When this path ends at a path running perpendicular to it, turn left and, 50 metres further on, turn right. When you reach a stony forest track, cross it and continue in the same direction until you reach a four-way junction.
(2) Take the path at right angles to the right, heading almost due east, until you reach the next junction. Then take the path on the left (almost due north) until you reach a crossroads (the map is inaccurate; the IGN map does not show that this path continues straight on – the OpenStreetMap hiking map, however, is correct). Take the path that branches off to the left
(3) The next junction is easy to spot: there is a stone marker, a forest sign No. 48 (at the foot of a tree behind the marker), and you cross mountain bike routes 24 and 25. Go straight on to follow the path which climbs, facing the slope which is sometimes steep, up to a ridge.
(4) Then take the path on the right and, a few metres further on, stay on the path that curves to the left, descends and joins a small tarmac road. Turn right onto this road to climb up the magnificent valley and past the Rufille farm until you reach a pass.
(5) Take the third path on your left after the pass, which runs diagonally, before the stony path begins to descend and turns right. Follow this new grassy path downhill to a wide bend to the right (beautiful view over Amagney).
(6) Take the path on the right, which initially descends gently (do not take the logging track that descends steeply). It soon bends to the left (heading south then east), descending a little more steeply.
(7) Stay on this main path, leaving the logging tracks on your right as they descend along the steepest slope. After a long descent (about 1 km), you’ll reach a stony track; take it to the right. Take note of the tracks branching off to the left: take thethird track you come to, to follow part of the VTT23 circular loop. To make sure you’re on the right track, go a few metres past it and look back; a VTT23 marker will then be visible.
(8) Take this track and follow the VTT23 markings until you reach a hunting lodge. Then follow the stony forest track on the left and head down, southwards, until you reach a right-angled left-hand bend.
(9) Take the wide path opposite, which starts just before this large bend, heading south. The path soon splits. Take the right-hand branch and follow it until you reach another forest track. Cross it and take the path opposite (the entrance is not very visible). At the first Fork in the road, take the left-hand branch. This track quickly leads back to the forest road; turn right onto it, which takes you back to the starting point (S/E).
and that you’ll enjoy this walk that I wanted to share with you...
, I think it’s fine...
