Description of the walk

Lac de la Forêt car park.

(S/E) With your back to the lake, take the road on the right, then turn onto the path on the left and follow the themed route (follow the signposting carefully through the woods). The path climbs slightly; pass two paths on the left and one on the right until you reach a crossroads.

(1) Pass thePR®2on your left and turn right. Cross the small stream at Pont-du-Loup and continue along the path, which climbs gently and crosses a heathland of gorse and ferns.

(2) At the junction (pidgeon hunting hut), take the path on the left, which leads to a road; follow this road to the left for 200m.

(3) Leave the road and head up to the right along the footpath for 700 metres.

(4) At the junction, follow the path to the left, lined with pidgeon hunting huts (take care!), for 1 km. Pass a path branching off to the left and arrive at a Fork in the road.

(5) Head left and make your way to the lake. Turn right and walk along the lake’s edge to return to the starting point (S/E).

A very pleasant circular walk, even in hot weather.
The paths are well maintained, and the forest is beautiful and varied. A few oak trees have recently been uprooted, but this isn’t a major issue.
Starting and finishing at the lake means you can enjoy a refreshing swim.
The refreshment kiosk, open in summer, is a great place to enjoy a drink or a welcome snack.

I followed the walk using the app, so I didn’t need the description or the map.
A lovely little walk through the heart of a lush green woodland, with wide, muddy paths and beautiful scenery. Everything I like for a pleasant outing and a breath of fresh air...

For those who enjoy walking in the woods, this is a lovely route. Apart from a viewpoint over Aignan and the Pyrenees – if there’s no mist – and the final stretch of the walk along the lake, the rest of the route is through woodland. There are a few interesting pidgeon hunting huts along the way. No GPS issues. The woodland path leading to the starting point is very pretty.

I did it in two stages by road – it was great both ways! But you need to pay close attention to the signposts and have a good sense of direction, as there are plenty of opportunities to go wrong.

There were lots of paths other than those shown on the map, so we couldn’t find point 1. We ended up getting lost on other trails and eventually found ourselves on a road, so we ended up doing a different walk to the one indicated. It was a very pleasant spot and a good walk all the same. The signposting on the ground is rather poor.
