Leave your car in the car park at Lac d'Alfeld.
(S) Cross the dam.
(1) Begin the ascent. Follow the Chevalet Rouge markings. The path climbs rapidly in tight switchbacks. On the way up, on the left, you can approach a waterfall.
(2) Continue climbing, leaving the Chevalet Rouge trail, which descends to your left.
(3) 100 m further on, there is another fork; take the right-hand path to join the Rectangle Rouge trail.
Then turn left towards Ballon d'Alsace. Pass Col de la Ronde Tête.
(4) Just before the summit, the slope is very steep and the path winds sharply. Arrive at the summit of Ballon d'Alsace.
(5) For the descent, take the path in the opposite direction, but follow the red rectangle markings for several kilometres. You are now on theGR®5F-GR®7, before descending via the blue triangle and then blue rectangle marked paths.
(6) This last section follows theGR®531trail.
The descent is much less steep than the ascent.
(1) Cross the dam to return to the Lac d'Alfeld car park (E).
