Lallaing: starting from the mining estates

The start of this walk is at the junction of Rue du Bay, Rue de Ricassart and Rue d’Auch; parking is available on these streets.

(S/E) From the bend in Rue d’Auch, head due south along the farm track to the end at Le Bay.

(1) Leave the return route on your right, turn left and walk alongside the industrial estate; after a right-hand bend, you’ll reach Rue des Galibot. Cross the road (at the pedestrian crossing), turn left and follow the road until you reach the large roundabout.

(2) Go round it on the left, cross Rue de Montigny and join the cycle path surrounded by greenery; at the end, turn left towards the housing estate and join Rue de Varades. Follow it to the first junction.

(3) Turn right onto Rue de Piriac, then take the^second left and finally turn right to reach the start of a walking trail.

(4) Take this path; shortly afterwards, cross a road and continue straight on, following Rue Derval. At the end, turn left then right until you reach the end of the car-sharing car park. Cross the D8 (pedestrian crossing on the right-hand side), walk a few metres until you reach the bend near the lake.

(5) Turn left so that you are facing the Germignie slag heap (lake), then follow the path alongside the lake until you reach the tarmac road (Chemin des Tourbières). Follow it to the right; at the junction, go straight on until you reach the Germinies bridge. On this road you will find the Ferme de Germinies with the Grotto of the Virgin Mary.

(6) Before the bridge, turn left and follow the River Scarpe; when you reach the lock, carry on straight ahead until you reach the next bridge and Rue des Poilus.

(7) Turn left and head down Rue des Poilus; at the roundabout, turn right, then head up Rue de la Vantelle to the end, opposite the entrance to a path.

(8) Take this path until the^first junction. Turn left to reach Avenue du Général de Gaulle, opposite Thomas Olszewski Square.

(9) Turn right onto the D35, then follow the cycle path alongside the avenue for about 300 metres until you see the start of a farm track on your left.

(10) Cross the road carefully and take the farm track to the^second junction, marked by rocks to prevent vehicles from passing.

(11) Turn left and follow the tree-lined track to the small bridge, then continue straight on to reach the junction of the tracks you passed on the way there.

(1) Turn left, heading in the opposite direction to the outward route, and return to the car park (S/E).

(3) Café Le Printania – a great spot to stop for a moment and have a bite to eat.

(6) Germignies South slag heap, lake, picnic area and children’s playground.
On this tree-lined path, you’ll find Parc des Arbandries on your left – a spot for picnics and children’s play – with the entrance on Rue des Zinnias.
