Description of the walk

Car park opposite the church in Rimbach, near Masevaux.

(S/E) From the car park, cross the road and walk uphill alongside the cemetery until you reach a crossroads.

(1) Turn right (yellow signpost) and continue to the intersection with the main road near the inn.

(2) Turn left onto Rue du Sternsee (yellow ring and blue triangle signs). After almost 1 km, you will come to a fork in the road.

(3) Leave the blue triangle sign and turn left, following the yellow ring signs to the Basse Bers farm.

(4) Go around the farm on the left and continue climbing, following the red triangle signs that lead to the lake dam.

(5) Climb straight up to the Col des Perches.

(6) At the pass, turn left and follow the GR®5 trail along the ridge above Lac des Perches.

(7) Turn right before the Haute Beers shelter and follow the blue and white rectangular markings until you reach the junction with the GR®531 (blue rectangle).

(8) There are two options:
1) Follow the GR®531, which descends directly to the Neuweiher lakes and rejoins the route at point (10).
2) Turn right onto Seppiweg (blue and white rectangular markings). This leads downhill to the junction with the Anneau Rouge trail, a few hundred metres after crossing a footbridge over the Neuweiher stream.

(9) Turn left towards the lake (red ring signpost), take a footbridge, pass a viewpoint and join the junction with the GR®531 (blue rectangle).

(10) Turn left and finish the descent by crossing the dyke between the two lakes. Continue on the Chemin d'accès l'auberge du Neuweiher. The climb resumes. Stay on the GR® which leaves the path to the inn on the left, then crosses it to reach the junction with the Anneau Rouge (lake tour) and Croix Bleue (towards Gresson Bas) trails.

(11) Turn right, following the blue rectangle markings for the GR®531. After a steep climb, the trail heads south, staying at the same level, until you reach the Gresson Moyen farmhouse inn.

(12) Pass the Gresson farmhouse inn and continue straight ahead on a carriage road until you reach the junction opposite a meadow.

(13) Leave the road and continue straight ahead through the pasture, veering to the left towards the ridge (the path is not always visible). On the ridge, follow the edge of the forest on your right until you reach the Lagerwald Hutte shelter.

(14) From the shelter, descend straight ahead, following the fence on your left, and cross the access road. Descend for about ten metres, then turn right, following the blue cross markings. Cross a carriage road and continue downhill, following the same signs. Further on, cross a wide path and rejoin the trail, heading south-east, before reaching a wide carriage road.

(15) Turn left onto the path (Blue Cross sign) and then, immediately after, take the path on the right (same sign) until you reach the next crossroads.

(16) Take the path on the right (marked with a blue triangle) until you reach the village of Ermensbach. At the end, cross the river and join the road.

(17) Turn right towards the centre of the village. After about 350 m, you will arrive at the Notre-Dame Chapel.

(18) Immediately after, turn left, then continue along the balcony path (marked with a yellow easel). After about 200 m, at the fork in the path, take the path on the right. Continue straight ahead until you reach the crossroads above the church you passed on the way there.

(1) Turn right and return to the car park where you started (S/E).
