Access: Leaving Carcassonne via the Mazamet road (D118), pass the village of Les Martys and, a little further up, turn left towards the village of Laprade Basse. Before reaching the village, you will find a large car park on your left.
(S) From the car park, join the road and follow it to the right. 250 metres further down, take a fairly wide path on the left which climbs for a few hundred metres. Continue, keeping left at all the forks you come to. You will arrive at an unpaved but well-trodden road. Take it to the left for about 300 metres.
(1) Leave this road via a path on the right. After a birch forest, turn left at the next fork. Cross two large wooden pontoons overlooking the peat bogs (information boards along the way). This will take you to the northern tip of the lake.
(2) Continue straight ahead on the path that runs along the banks until you reach a paved road.
(3) Cross the small bridge on the left over the Dure, the river that feeds and crosses the lake, then cross the D101. Go up into the village, leave the church on your right and continue along the road to the cemetery.
(4) The road gives way to a forest track. Go down to the lake and turn right onto the discovery trail, which is clearly marked in yellow and signposted with vitrified lava signs providing information about the flora and fauna. Keep the lake on your left at all times. You will go around it until you reach the dam.
(5) Cross it. In the middle of the dam, you can see a tower with numbers on it, the highest being 770, which corresponds to the maximum water level. This figure corresponds to the altitude of the lake above sea level. At the other end, continue along the road for a few dozen metres to find the car park on your left (S/E).
