Description of the walk

Departure: Leisure area, Rue du Val de l'Indre, Chambourg-sur-Indre.
Parking: Spaces near the sports facilities.

Markings: Blue

(S/E) Walk up Rue Val de l'Indre towards the village and turn right onto the path before the bridge, towards the leisure area. Follow this path to the banks of the Indre. Walk back up the road at the last bridge.

(1) After the bridge, turn left onto the road. Halfway through the second block of houses, turn left onto a path that runs alongside the river. Follow this path until it joins the departmental road.

(2) At the intersection with the RD10 road, turn right, then right again onto Chemin des Sables. At the first intersection, turn left onto the path. At the crossroads with the road, continue straight ahead to descend onto the RD10.

(3) Follow the road to the right, then turn right onto Chemin du Chesneau. Continue straight ahead when the road becomes a path.

(4) After the last houses, enter a wood and cross it until you reach a clearing.

(5) Turn left onto the path at the edge of the woods, then left again to re-enter the woods. Then take the first path on the right and continue until you reach a road.

(6) At the intersection, turn left and cross the farm. Then continue along the path on the right until you reach a road. Follow the road to the right.

(7) Turn onto the path on the left to enter the woods and continue along this path until you reach the D94.

(8) Cross this road with caution and, at the various intersections, go straight ahead until you can no longer do so. You will eventually come out onto a road in the middle of fields (GR®46).

(9) Turn right along this road to reach Carroir Robin and the junction with the RD25.

(10) Take the path opposite into the woods. At the crossroads, turn left across the fields and descend towards the Indre. When you reach the road, continue on the left and return to the crossroads you passed on the way out.

(1) Return to the starting point by retracing your steps (S/E).

Worth a visit

The Loches National Forest:
The Loches National Forest covers nearly 3,600 hectares to the south-east of Chambourg-sur-Indre. Formerly a royal forest, it retains its undeniable historical value with its pyramids, vast avenues and ponds. Its oak trees, which can reach 250 years of age and measure over 40 metres in height, are particularly prized for the manufacture of barrels.

The "Roman Bridge":
On Ile Auger, on the banks of the Indre, stand the remains of a15th-century bridge, rather misnamed the "Roman Bridge". Several arches still span the river, in a green setting conducive to relaxation.

To walk further...:

Starting from Chambourg-sur-Indre, another circular walking route awaits you: the Gué au Grain (8.8 km - yellow markings). The GR® 46 and GRP® Sentier Historique de Touraine also cross the commune.
