The Aure Valley from Rebouc

The route is no longer marked or maintained!!!

Between May and October: tall, dense ferns between points 4 and 6 make the route very difficult.

A summary of what the valley entrance has to offer: breathtaking 360° views, highlighting the incredible alignment of the valley. Discover steep paths, fords, shaded areas, mossy areas, ridges, meadows, forests and scrubby moorland, ending with a passage along a turbulent stream with multiple waterfalls.

Description of the walk

The starting point sign is located on the D26 at the entrance to Rue de la Bourie, which leads to La Bourie campsite and the former Rebouc craft area.
Please do not park in front of the signpost. A public car park is available 50 metres away in the former craft zone, opposite La Bourie campsite.
The route was marked with pink markings, which may still be visible in some sections.

(S/E) Head south towards Rebouc along the path that runs between the meadows and the railway line. At the end of the path, descend towards the canal of the hydroelectric power station to reach the bridge over the disused railway line. Shortly after the bridge, you will reach a housing estate.

(1) Turn left into the estate, then follow the road uphill until you leave the village, following the pink markings. After a bend to the left, the path crosses the Coume Nère stream and you will come to a crossroads.

(2) Leave the forest path and take the small path on the right just after the first house overlooking the road. The path is very steep for 400 m ; this section is the most difficult part of the route. You will arrive at the third stream.

(3) Wade across it and you will quickly reach the forest track on a small plateau.

(4) Cross this track and take the dirt track that goes around the hill on the right on the left. Pink stakes mark the path. The track gradually narrows to a single path. Continue following the pink markings. You will arrive at the start of the Landes de Rebouc. Begin a steep descent and you will find yourself back on the forest track you crossed earlier.

(5) Turn left to continue the descent towards the valley. The path winds along a rocky ridge. You will arrive at the first tree, where a newly resurfaced path joins the valley on the right bank of the Ruisseau de Rieu Tort stream.

(6) Continue until you reach the first houses and their access road.

(7) Walk along the railway line on your right until you return to the first crossroads you passed on the way out.

(1) Follow the same route back to the public car park where you started (S/E).

Notes

General remarks about this hike:
- very steep path over 400 m, good cardio required,
- Passage may cause vertigo.
- Several fords, which remain accessible in wet weather but require greater dexterity.
- 3 km without shade, bring water.
- Steep descent on a rocky ridge (slippery in wet weather), good footwear essential.
- (between 3 and 4) cows may be grazing, keep a safe distance and even further (30 m) if a calf is present, as the mother may attack to protect it.
- Beautiful path overall, with a wide variety of environments to be explored.

Worth a visit

(Between 2 and 4) Numerous abandoned barns on the uphill section of the route.
(3) This section is covered with moss for 50 metres. Once you have passed between two split rocks, there is a 50-metre stretch of very steep path with a beautiful view of the valley.
(Between 4 and 5) The Crête des Landes de Rebouc is a great place to observe vultures, eagles and deer.
(5) A very pleasant picnic area at the end of the Crête des Landes de Rebouc ridge with a panoramic view of the entire valley.
(Between 6 and 7) The Rieu Tort torrent at the bottom of the Landes de Rebouc offers a series of waterfalls.

A very pleasant hike, even if difficult due to the nature of the terrain. We didn't meet anyone. Fortunately, the GPS tracking was accurate. Note that the "so-called" picnic area does not exist, or no longer exists, due to vegetation.

Short and very beautiful hike.
Quite challenging if you walk at a good pace, which is great exercise! The route is easy to follow with the directions given here on Visorando, plus GPS.
We missed the fork at point 5. A section of the route a little further down, 50 metres away, allows you to rejoin the path on the left.
In the final section, rather than following the railway line, you can walk along the canal to the car park, which is a slight variation that avoids going back the same way.
Thank you for this wonderful discovery!

A beautiful route, well-marked trail, stunning views on the climb up to the cliffs of Pène Haute, and on the descent into the Neste valley and the Pyrenees mountain range, including the summit of Arbizon.
A few minor difficulties:
- as indicated in the description at point "2" and after point "3", the trail is steep but fairly short
- the description is a little vague at point "4" (Cross this track and take the dirt track on the left...). In fact, you first have to walk across a meadow for 30 to 40 metres before reaching the dirt track
- It had rained the day before our walk, and taking into account the comments, at point "5" we did not descend the rocky ridge towards the Rieu Tort stream, which was likely to be slippery. To reach point "7", we followed the route suggested in route "4" (Les landes de Rebouc), so from point "5", we followed the forest track for about 30 metres and took the path on the left, which took us across the ridge of the moors with a beautiful view of the Aure valley and the Lannemezan plateau.

Very beautiful hike, much less difficult than described! The weather was nice and dry, so no problems on the rocks on the way down. Magnificent view and a lovely stream at the bottom, perfect for a picnic. Some places are marked a little vaguely, so we used the Visorando app to stay on the right path.

A beautiful hike with many different landscapes: beautiful forests, ridges, rivers...
The descent to the river is steep, so be careful with your knees and watch your step. Not suitable for children or dogs.
Nevertheless, I recommend this hike, especially as most of it is in the shade, which is very pleasant in hot weather.
Thank you for this discovery.

A beautiful outing that I recommend, but if I do this route again, I will skip the end of the trail in favour of a less treacherous alternative to the descent, which presents some risks.

A very beautiful hike in good weather, well marked, which we found less difficult than advertised. Good footwear is essential, especially at the end of the descent. It is possible to combine this route with hike no. 4 if you wish, which is what we did on the way back, to stay on the top of the ridge and make the most of the sunshine. Superb views of the valley and beautiful, varied landscapes all along the way. Thank you for this discovery.

A superb hike with a wide variety of landscapes: forest, open areas, wetlands with a pretty stream at the end of the walk. A real pleasure!
We did it on a cloudy day (clouds hanging at around 1,500 metres) and the view from the ridge was already quite spectacular.
The path is perfectly marked and the explanations are clear. You need proper hiking boots as the slope leading to the stream is quite steep.
Thank you to the Aure Valley Paths Association for allowing us to discover this beautiful site!
