Description of the walk

Depart from the car park at the start of Route Dauphine, the second road on the left on the D98, which runs from Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche to Saint-Germain-en-Laye.

(S/E) Immediately before the barrier, turn right onto the forest path that leads straight to Étoile du Loup, then to Étoile de Montaigu.

(1) Cross the Route des Princesses and continue straight ahead, taking the forest path that leads to the edge of the golf course fence.

(2) Turn right and go around the golf course on your left, taking the path that runs alongside the Ru de Buzot.

(3) Continue along the tarmac road, then take the path opposite, in the 90° right-hand bend. Continue until you reach a road at the end of Chemin du Jongleur.

(4) Turn left (Allée Frédéric Passy) and reach the entrance to the Désert de Retz.

(5) Continue along the path running alongside the Désert de Retz on your right and the Joyenval golf course on your left, passing the latter by a few dozen metres.

(6) Turn left onto the uphill path and reach the "plateau". Continue straight ahead until you reach a cross path.

(7) Turn left and continue straight ahead until you reach the Étoile des Chasseurs.

(8) Turn right and continue straight ahead until you reach the Table de Vénerie.

(9) Turn right and, at the second crossroads, turn right. Join the Route Dauphine and follow it to the left until you reach the car park (S/E).

A lovely walk that allows you to discover a magnificent golf course, along a pleasant stream, and get a glimpse of the Retz Desert.
There are lots of beautiful trees and you might even spot a deer.
Lots of mud, rutted paths and tree trunks lying across the path, some easier to cross than others.
The alternative route directly to the Dauphine road was appreciated by those of our hikers who are less fond of climbs.
When I do the hike again with my whole group, I will avoid the direct slope from the car park to point 1, which is really difficult, by taking the Dauphine road and then turning right onto the Princesses road, which is less uneven.
