Description of the walk

Park your car next to the cemetery, on the left after the church. This is where you’ll cause the least disruption.

(S/E) Go down at the first junction and take the road on the left, heading for the Ravin Bouchet ford.

(1) Cross the ford on the right; a path branches off to the left – follow it at a leisurely pace to point 672.
The signposting requires a bit of attention; simply follow it carefully to avoid any problems.
Reach the Fourmerresse Ravine.

(2) Cross it easily, then reach the next ravine (Soubeyran), which requires more care as it is very rugged.

(3) Note: You’ll come to a barrier; I assume it’s there to prevent mountain bikes from accessing the next hillock. A view opens up before you over the Val de Durance, with Ceüse and the Pic de Bure in the background.

Take care to follow the new route, which climbs up through the marl (a steep climb awaits you, before descending again towards point 825) on the map. Follow the IGN map markings; the path climbs gently up to the Siguret sheepfold.

(4) Head towards Melve, turning right. After a few hairpin bends, you’ll reach the ridge at an elevation of 1,230 metres.

(5) Continue to the right towards the Tête de Boursier, where a magnificent panorama awaits you.

(6) Return to the previous junction via the same route.

(5) Continue to the right, heading south-east, until you reach a crossroads at an altitude of 1235m.

(7) Take the descending path on the right; it requires a bit of care as it is somewhat eroded.
300m further down, on a tree, a sign points left to Melve and right to Claret.

(8) Turn right towards Claret. You will reach the Gineste ravine.

(9) Continue left and follow the path as it winds its way to the track. Follow it to the left; it leads to Astoin (this is the farm on the other side of the road).

(10) Follow the D104 road to the right for about a hundred metres; a sign on a telephone pole directs you to take a very well-marked path on the right which crosses the D104 several times and takes you back to Claret and to the cars (S/E).

No water sources. The path is well signposted. Sturdy footwear is recommended, particularly for crossing the marl.

Worth a visit

This hike is best done in late May or early June, when there are magnificent peonies in bloom.
Plus the scenery all year round.

We didn’t have any problems at the start of the route;
but from point 8 onwards we couldn’t see the markings and the path was hard to find.
So we went back to the road to rejoin the path at point 10.
What a shame

A lovely route
Circular route featuring forests, marl formations and scenic viewpoints
Points to note: the two ravines, including the Fourmeresse ravine, which has a step where you have to take a 70–80 cm jump to cross the stream
The other ravine, Pré Soubeyran, is equipped with a rope but is also not easy to cross for some people

Hello, I went on this hike today, 18 April 2023. Everything was great, but I have a few comments: 1) Before WPT 3, there is a heavily eroded ravine; a handrail is needed to get across.
2) The Chemin de la Plane (WPT 8) is rarely used and can be difficult to follow through the overgrown broom. In particular, from the bend after the bridge, as you head up towards waypoint 9, and between waypoints 9 and 10, it’s clear that the local sheep farmer no longer wants people to pass through there and has fenced off the path with numerous sheep pens, so crossing them is at your own risk! Ultimately, from the bridge onwards, it’s better to stick to the road and take the second shortcut after the ASTOIN farm, on the right, which is well signposted and in good condition – but for how long? As construction work underway suggests the owners won’t continue to let hikers walk right past their terrace. To be continued, then... Otherwise, it was magnificent.

A lovely walk with no particular difficulties
Lovely views, though unfortunately the sky was grey that day!
This hike isn’t difficult; I’d rate the difficulty as moderate
At point 1, it’s not a path but a track
Signposting is sometimes faint towards the end (from point 8)

Enjoy the hike – the view from the summit is magnificent. Along the way, it’s a bit tricky to find the path again after the gate, but if you pay attention, you’ll easily find your way back onto the trail in the gully; from there, it’s a steep climb.
The descent is steep. It took a bit of fumbling to find the path leading down to the village. No big deal—worst case scenario, you can just stay on the road.
Another great day

A lovely walk to point 7, with the added bonus of wild peonies in bloom.
If you’re going in a group, to avoid the uninteresting walk back to the village, you can leave a car by the roadside at point 8 or 10.

The first part of the walk is lovely, up to Tête Boursier; however, the descent and the return to the village are a bit dull as there isn’t much to see.
