Start from the Xurien Borda car park. To get there, take the Xurien Borda path, opposite the Trabenia restaurant.
(S/E) At the top of the car park, go past the chicane and turn right. Follow the path that has been created to join theGR®®10, then follow the ‘Yasola’ signs, crossing the stream via a concrete bridge, to reach the GR®10.
(1) Continue along the south-facing path, which climbs for 1 km to the Deskargako Lepoa Pass, a junction of numerous trails.
(2) Directly ahead of you (leaving theGR®®10on your right), you’ll see a sheep pen on your right beneath the trees. Head uphill, following the small white ‘YA’ symbols, which will take you to the Yasola Inn 15 minutes later
(3) Head straight up the slope to the left of the inn; this section is very steep and slippery.
You’ll walk alongside a woodland on a small plateau; take a moment to turn round and admire the view.
(4) Take the path on the left which runs alongside the Petite Rhune; you’ll pass some rock carvings. As you emerge from the small copse, turn right towards the boundary marker.
(5) You’ll then come to the Spanish track coming from Bera; turn left and continue climbing to the summit of La Rhune.
(6) After a short rest, head back down the other side. Cross the rack railway tracks and descend, following the arrows marked on the rocks.
You’ll also see yellow markings; take great care on the descent as there are plenty of rocks.
(7) You’ll arrive at a small wood (Trois Fontaines).
Take the path on your left; you’ll rejoin theGR®®10, and a long 45-minute descent will take you straight back to the car park (S/E).
