The Quest for the Holy Grail in Chevrey

This route is fun and educational. On foot or by bike, join the two friends, Jack la Panouille and Max Decoop, on their adventures in Saint-Maurice-en-Rivière! With their ears pricked up, Max and Jack have heard rumours of a vast treasure. It seems the Holy Grail is to be found in the village. This might just be the chance for the two corn cobs to strike it rich and make a clean getaway for good! But our two adventurers have their work cut out for them... Help them on their journey!

Description of the walk

Start at the car park of the town hall in Saint-Maurice-en-Rivière.

(S/E) Take the Grande Rue on your right as you leave the car park, then follow Rue Boisse on your left. You will come to the information panel “La vaine pâture”.

(1) Continue straight ahead.

(2) At the next junction, take the road on the left. At the start of the stony path, take the path on the left until you reach the wind turbine. Look for the sign “De l’eau pour les troupeaux”.

(3) Retrace your steps.

(2) Turn left into Rue Boisse.

(4) Continue left along Rue de la Ramée until you reach the sign for “Cattle breeds”.

(5) Continue straight ahead along the stony path to the pond and the sign dedicated to the free-range facilities.

(6) Retrace your steps to the start of the stony path.

(5) Continue straight on along Rue de la Ramée.

(4) Continue straight on along Rue Sapin.

(7) Take Rue Chandelier on the left, then turn right onto Grande Rue to return to the car park (S/E).

Notes

Signposting: follow the signs (SMR1) and the yellow markings (walking and hiking trail).

Safety instructions: be well equipped (rucksack,first-aid kit, suitable clothing, good footwear, etc.). Bring a bottle of water and protect yourself from the sun. Carry a mobile phone. Do not leave any litter in the countryside. Take care when crossing roads. Do not stray from the marked trails. Keep clear of forestry work. Respect crops, livestock, private property and current regulations. Take care during the hunting season (September to February).

Worth a visit

Near this walk there are numerous alluvial meadows, particularly between the towns of Damerey and Verdun-Ciel.The more or less seasonal presence of water supports a rich variety of flora and fauna, making the site a Natura 2000 area.
