La Quercitaine

Starting from the charming village of Cahon, nestled in the Trie valley, this lovely walk will take you to Quesnoy-le-Montant before returning along pleasant paths through woods and pastures to your starting point. The inhabitants of Quesnoy-le-Montant are called Quercitains, hence the name of this walk. As for Cahon, the starting and finishing village, you will find a flour mill that is still in operation and produces flour, one variety of which is reserved for the "Avocette" baguette sold in Quesnoy-le-Montant, but also in other bakeries in the Somme. In short, this is a gastronomic and heritage walk.

Description of the walk

Park in the car park of the multi-purpose hall in Cahon.

(S/E) Leave the football pitch behind you and follow Rue du Moulin until you reach the junction with the departmental road. Turn left towards the town hall and the church.

(1) Just after the town hall, take the first street on the right, which quickly turns into a path. You will reach a crossroads.

(2) Turn right onto the straight dirt track leading to the D65.

(3) Take this departmental road to the left and continue to the stop sign.

(4) Continue straight ahead, still on the D65, towards the centre of Quesnoy-le-Montant.

(5) After the Citroën garage, turn left and drive past the community hall and the church. Head towards the bakery behind the town hall square.

(6) After the bakery (you are allowed to stop there), continue straight ahead until you reach the last houses.

(7) Take the first road on the left and go to the end.

(8) Turn right onto the path and continue straight ahead until you reach a fork in the path to the right before rejoining the road. Head left towards the cemetery, the Saint-Martin Chapel and the Hymmeville farm.

(9) Just after this, you can shorten the route by taking the GR® 125 on the left, then left again after the old gatekeeper's house to rejoin the original route. Otherwise, continue straight ahead as shown on the map, slightly downhill to the bottom of the road.

(10) Turn left onto the small road that curves to the right, then reaches a crossroads near the railway bridge. Turn left to pass underneath.

(11) Immediately afterwards, turn left to follow the path that runs alongside the railway line, then veers off to the right and runs alongside a wooded area before reaching a crossroads at the pumping station.

(12) Take the road on the left, then turn right just before the old gatekeeper's house and rejoin the possibly shortened version.

(13) Turn left and continue between pastures and woods on the right. Join a road.

(14) Take it slightly to the left until you are behind the old Quesnoy station. Then take the Fond de Bannes road directly opposite. Once at the end, turn left at the old gatekeeper's house and join the D106.

(15) Turn right onto it towards the town hall and church in Cahon.

(1) Go straight ahead, then turn right onto Rue du Moulin to return to the car park of the multi-purpose hall (S/E).
