Description of the walk

Start at Gare Saint-Lazare. Access via the metro (lines 3, 9, 12, 13 or 14), the RER (line E) or the Transilien (lines J or L). Take the exit leading to the Cour du Havre, where a sculpture depicting a stack of clocks stands.

(S/E) Cross Rue d’Amsterdam and follow Rue Saint-Lazare eastwards. Continue straight on until you reach a junction with the Church of the Holy Trinity on your left. Walk along Square Estienne d’Orves and continue along Rue Saint-Lazare for about a hundred metres.

(1) Turn left into Rue Catherine de La Rochefoucault. Cross Rue de la Tour des Dames on the left, then turn right into Rue d’Aumale. Take the first left, Rue Saint-Georges, and you will soon reach the square of the same name.

(2) Turn left into Rue Notre-Dame de Lorette. Continue straight ahead and cross Rue de La Rochefoucauld. Shortly afterwards, turn right onto Rue Jean-Baptiste Pigalle and follow it to the square of the same name.

(3) Take the first left, Rue Duferré. This leads onto Rue de Douai; follow it to the left until you reach No. 15 (Orthodox chapel). Retrace your steps and follow Rue de Douai until you reach Rue Pierre Fontaine. Follow this to the right until you reach Place Blanche.

(4) Then take the first left, Rue Blanche. Cross Rue de Douai and then Rue de Calais. Take a brief detour into Rue Ballu, on the right, to No. 11 (beautiful mansions). Retrace your steps and follow Rue Blanche to the right.

(5) Take the first left, Rue Chaptal, then the first right, Rue Henner (on the left, the Musée de la Vie Romantique). At the end, turn right onto Rue de La Bruyère. At the end, rejoin Rue Blanche and follow it to the left. You will reach a junction with Rue de la Trinité, near the chancel of the church of the same name.

(6) Turn sharply left into Rue Jean-Baptiste Pigalle. Take a short detour into Square La Bruyère. Retrace your steps to the previous junction.

(6) Turn left into Rue de la Tour-des-Dames. At the end, rejoin Rue de La Rochefoucauld and follow it to the right.

(1) Join Rue Saint-Lazare and follow it to the left. Take the first left, Rue Taitbout, and continue to Square d’Orléans at No. 80. Retrace your steps and follow Rue Saint-Lazare to the left. Continue straight on until you reach the apse of the Church of Notre-Dame de Lorette.

(7) Take the second right, Rue du Faubourg Montmartre. Continue straight on along this lively street, crossing Rue de Maubeuge, Rue de Châteaudun and Rue La Fayette in turn. At the next junction, cross Rue de Provence on the right-hand side and, shortly afterwards, look out for the entrance to Passage Verdeau on the right.

(8) Enter this passage. At the end, cross Rue de la Grange Batelière and continue along Passage Jouffroy. At the end, turn right onto Boulevard Montmartre. Take the first right, Rue Drouaut.

(9) At No. 6, turn right, go under a porch and you’ll arrive at the 9th arrondissement town hall. Retrace your steps.

(9) Continue right along Rue Drouaut and immediately turn left into Rue Rossini. Go straight on to the end of this street. Take Rue Laffitte on the left, then Rue Pillet Will on the right. At the end, cross Rue La Fayette at the pedestrian crossing.

(10) Follow this street to the left. At the junction (Place Théophile Bader), take the first right, Rue de la Chaussée d’Antin. Cross Rue de Provence and turn immediately left into Rue Joubert. At the end (Place Georges Berry), turn right into Rue Caumartin. Join Rue Saint-Lazare and follow it to the left to quickly reach Gare Saint-Lazare (S/E).
