The Enchanted Forest in Boncourt

Park in the car park on Chemin du Mont Renaud, right next to a signpost for the ‘Sentier des Faînes’ walk.

(S/E) From the car park, head straight into the forest. You’ll immediately come across some wooden sculptures depicting animals and cartoon characters.
Follow the path straight on until you reach a Fork in the road.

(1) Keep left, continue straight on and cross Chemin du Mont Renaud. The path veers slightly to the right, then to the left.

(2) Turn left and, following a circular route, head towards Mont Renaud; you’ll already be able to see a viewing tower in the distance. Carry on to this tower, which offers a lovely view.

(3) Then head towards the hut and the picnic area opposite the viewing tower. Behind the hut, take the path on the right to rejoin the Sentier des Faînes.

(2) Follow the path back the way you came until you reach the junction where you arrived from the right.

(1) Turn left here, then stay on the path which veers slightly to the right. Stay on this path, which descends gently towards the village. Once you reach the bottom of this path, you’ll see the village of Boncourt.

(4) Turn right here and follow the path, which then veers to the right. You’ll pass through a section of the ‘enchanted forest’ with wooden sculptures once more. Continue straight on to reach the car park (S/E).

There are two different routes to choose from: a short 2.3 km circular route (marked in yellow), which mainly takes you past the wooden sculptures, or a longer 4.5 km circular route (marked in red); the start and finish points are the same for both.
From the hut, you can set off on the longer circular route by continuing straight ahead.

The route described here is slightly longer than the circular route; we have included a return trip to the viewing tower.

The route runs mainly through woodland and is well shaded in summer. In slightly damp weather, the trail can get a bit muddy.

It’s an ideal walk for families, but the path isn’t suitable for pushchairs.

A fun family walk: you’ll discover wooden sculptures of famous cartoon characters and legendary figures, as well as animals made from everyday objects and rubbish.

There is a playground next to the hut and the picnic area.
