La Forêt de Saverne et ses rochers insolites sur la boucle de la Seeb

A very pretty undulating loop trail with various options for the return.
Paths in the undergrowth run alongside or through beautiful, imposing pink sandstone rocks: Schoenfels, Pfannenfels, Kelchfels, Marguerite, Grotte des Francs Tireurs and, optionally, Neubaufels and Seebfels.

Description of the walk

Park in the car park at the Carrefour du Billebaum.

(S/E) Take the footpath (GR®) that starts on the left of the Route Forestière from Stanbach to Reinhardsmunster and follow the road as far as a tarmac three-way junction.

Blue Triangle signposting

(1) Keep to the left and continue along the tarmac road as far as the Seeb crossroads.

(2) Continue for approximately 100 m and turn right onto the sloping forest road towards Schoenfels Kempel MF. Cross the forest road and cross the small wooden bridge over the Baerenbach stream.

(3) Climb under the fir trees on a narrow path. Reach the Route Forestière du Schoenfels and follow it to the left for around fifty metres.

(4) Before a bend to the left, climb to the right over the rocky bar of the Schoenfels, the northern end of which ends in a magnificent rock-calice.

(5) Retrace your steps until you reach the forest road.

(4) Follow the track to the right. At the next junction, go straight ahead. Go past the Maison Forestière de Kempel. Go around the forest house to the right and then, after about 100 m, take the forest track to the right as far as the junction of two forest tracks behind the forest house.

(6) Take the forest track on the left towards the Pfannenfels, an imposing sandstone rock face with a number of viewpoints including the Dabo rock.

(7) Return to the path and after a hundred metres turn right onto a very narrow sloping path partially hidden by branches and tall grass to discover the chalice-shaped Kelchfels rock on the edge of the cliff.

(8) Retrace your steps to take the forest path on the right, then continue as far as the intersection with the Route Forestière Margueritenweg on the right.

(9) Follow it downhill for a few hundred metres, then turn left onto the narrow path that leads to Rocher Marguerite.

(10) Retrace your steps and climb back up to the forest road junction.

(9) Turn right onto the forest road and continue on level ground.
Take the forest path on the right towards Grotte des Francs Tireurs Baerenbach; the path is narrow at times and is bordered on the left by a low sandstone cliff to reach Grotte des Francs Tireurs.

(11) Continue along the sloping forest path until you reach the bridge over the Baerenbach stream and then the forest road leading to the Baerenbach forest house.

(12) Opposite the forest house, cross the road and reach the junction of two forest tracks forming a large square.
Yellow triangle markings
Option 1: Follow the wide Landenrudersberg forest track to the right, which leads to the Seeb.

Red triangle signposting
Option 2: Take the wide Chemin des Pionniers to the left.
At the bend after about 400 m, fork right onto the Scheitzerberg forest path.
500 m before reaching the Seeb, turn left onto the path marked Anneau Jaune and then the path marked Anneau Bleu to reach the gazebo overlooking the Rocher de Neubaufels (picnic area and shelter).
and/or continue along the Yellow Ring towards Seebfels, a magnificent rock in two parts with a bridge and bench.
In both cases, return in the direction of Seeb.

Option 3: Following the proposed route, take the wide, flat Pionniers path, dominated at the end of the route on the right by the Neubaufels and Seebfels rocks, and rejoin the Seeb.

(2) Follow the tarmac forest road to the left, in the opposite direction to the outward journey, then the footpath as far as the Carrefour du Billebaum(S/E).

nice hike in the forest; very original rocks; NOTE THAT SINCE ABOUT 1 MONTH IT IS NO LONGER POSSIBLE TO START THIS HIKE FROM THE MF HABERACKER; the forest road is closed to car traffic after the place called Billebaum; you have to leave your car in the Billebaum car park, which makes the circuit a little longer (about 3 kms).

Magnificent walk on small paths in a covered forest, damp that day, with an invigorating smell.

Hello,
I'm 72 years old and I hope to still be able to hike like you at your age!
The aim of this hike is to help you discover all these remarkable rocks in the heart of nature; in fact, I've shared another hike on Visorando on the same theme and in a similar area: the "Circuit des rochers remarquables au Sud de Saverne" (remarkable rocks to the south of Saverne), 15.75 km long (you can do two separate loops on this circuit, i.e. about 10 km and 5.67 km from point 8).
You can reduce the distance of this walk by parking at the "carrefour de la Seeb", i.e. a return gain of around 2.5 km (by parking at point 1 of the circuit).
You can skip the Marguerite rock, saving around 0.6 km.
Have a good walk
Best regards

very pretty route, mainly in the forest; very original rocks to discover; several places to picnic (notably caves under the rocks and also numerous benches along the route); steep slopes in places
