This walk is located south-west of Saverne. The car park is a few kilometres from Reinhardsmunster, which can be reached from the D1004 (Saverne–Strasbourg) via the D218 or the D117.
In Reinhardsmunster, head towards Wangenbourg. On leaving the village at a hairpin bend, go straight on along a forest track: signposted ‘Forêt Domaniale de Saverne’.
(S/E) From the car park, take the small GR®53 path marked with a Red Rectangle to the fork in the road, before the forest house car park.
(1) Turn right and follow the tarmac path marked with a Blue Rectangle, which passes between the houses in the hamlet and goes round the forest house, then leave the road on the right. You will come to a junction.
(2) Take the path on the right (marked with a Blue Rectangle, White Rectangle, and Blue Rectangle) towards the Maisonnettes de Pierre. Please note: take the path branching off to the right a little further on to begin a long, gentle descent down the hillside.
(3) Cross the Schlossbeg Forest Path. The path, still marked with blue-white-blue Blue Rectangles, is somewhat obscured by the terrain. Continue gently downhill and reach the Y-junction ofthe GR®®531.
(4) Turn left here and head uphill towards Wuestenberg-Krapenfels-Ochsenstein, following the Blue Rectangle markings. You’ll reach a forest track; cross it and follow the Blue Rectangle markings of theGR®®. Climb up the hillside and follow a zigzagging path to reach La Pierre des Druides.
(5) Continue along theGR®® by heading left whilst facing La Pierre des Druides. Follow a gentle climb to reach Krappenfels.
(6) Turn right onto the path that goes round the rock and descends towards the Col du Krappensfels. Cross it straight ahead to continue following theGR®® and its Blue Rectangle markings. Climb up to the Schlossberg.
(7) Continue following theGR®® to reach Ochsenstein Castle.
(8) Go round to the left before the main castle. Then begin an easy descent to return to the original crossroads.
(2) Turn right and follow the same route as on the way there to descend towards the forest house and the car park (S/E).
