Description of the walk

Park in the car park known as the Ochsenstein Castle car park

(S/E) Head towards the castle, passing the Haberacker Forest House (MF).

(1) At the junction after passing the Haberacker Forest House (MF), leave the forest track and head up the path on the right. Follow the Blue Rectangle signposting (GR®531). At the next Fork in the road, turn right, then left at the following Fork in the road. Then keep to the right until you reach Ochsenstein Castle.

(2) At the castle on the hilltop, there are lovely views. Continue to follow theGR®531and the Blue Ring markings, walking across the plateau and then down through the forest towards the Wuestenberg junction at the Krappenfels Pass.

(3) At the pass, leave theGR®531and take the path on the left, following the forest track towards the Haberacker MF, marked with the Blue Ring. This part of the walk is slightly less interesting. At the end of this forest track, rejoin the tarmac road leading to the car park at Ochsenstein Castle (S/E).

A pleasant hike, uphill through the forest then back down a mostly flat forest path (not very shaded). Pretty rocks and beautiful views, easy to follow. A few slightly steep rocky steps lead to the castles (access to the summit is prohibited).

Please note that the forest road leading to the starting point (Haberacker forest house) is now closed to cars. You must park at the Billebaum crossroads (15-20 minutes' walk away).

The walk is almost entirely in the woods, which is nice when it's hot.
For those who would like a little extra: you can park in the village of Reinhardsmunster near the church and walk to Billbaum before heading to the forest houses; this adds 45 to 55 minutes of easy walking.
