Park in the car park of the hamlet of Pont de Rhaud on the D70 between the towns of Miramas and Grans.
Please note: this hike follows unmarked trails. I recommend using the app with GPS enabled.
(S/E) Head south on the tarmac road between the houses until you reach a barrier. Go past it and take the road on the left.
(1) Head downhill to the left towards the Gorges de la Touloubre, following the blue markings. Follow the river to the Camargue bridge.
(2) Continue straight ahead until you reach the second bridge.
(3) Leave the blue markings and take the Pont des Kiwis bridge. Go up a path and then a street towards Cornillon-Confoux.
(4) Cross the Route de Saint-Chamas and go up it on the right. Take the steps on the right, cross a playground and, in front of the Fontaine de Bacchus, go up into the village via the Grand Rue. Take the first street on the left, pass in front of the town hall and then turn left again to reach the Rue du Baou.
Turn right and go around the village via the ramparts, passing by the Place du Lavoir to the Place de l'Église Saint-Vincent.
(5) At the statue of the Virgin Mary on this square, go down the steps towards the necropolis and the cemetery. Cross the cemetery and go through a small gate down to the Saint-Vincent Chapel, where Roman sarcophagi are on display.
(6) Retrace your steps, cross the extraordinary garden to reach the Route de Saint-Chamas.
(4) Cross the road and go down the stairs towards the Roman wash house. Go past the wash house and follow the blue markings.
(7) After the Pont de la Touloubre bridge on the Route des Ronteaux, turn right onto the path leading to the Camargue bridge.
(2) Go up to the left towards the signs for the apiaries and the 13th-century farm.
(8) After visiting the apiaries (or bee walls) and the ruins of the farm, return to the path, leave the blue markings and continue climbing north-west. At the Y-junction, take the path on the right, marked with an old orange sign.
(9) On the left, pass by and over a dry stone well to reach a path. Turn right onto this path. Along the way, you will see traces of a past agricultural and pastoral life: rock shelters and dry stone walls. After passing an apier (bee wall), turn left at the fork, then right to reach a well-preserved drystone shelter.
(10) After visiting this dry stone hut, turn around and go back to the fork. Then, a little further down, turn left to reach the first fork on the way there.
(1) Continue straight ahead and follow the path in the opposite direction to return to the Pont de Rhaud car park (S/E).
