Parking is compulsory for all visitors to Montclus – there are a few shaded spaces.
(S/E) Reach and cross the Cèze river, then follow the road to the left after the old mill.
(1) At the crossroads, turn right onto the road that leads into the forest.
(2) At the forest house, leave the road and go straight up the gravel path.
(3) At the foot of Combe de Bertrand, turn right onto the path that leaves the main track.
(4) At the crossroads of four forest paths, turn left and quickly reach a rocky ridge offering a beautiful view of the Cèze valley. The path then gives way to a trail that winds left between the shrubs to reach the highest point of the walk.
(5) Take a short detour to the Dent du Serret and its viewpoint over the meanders of the Cèze and the surrounding peaks before descending to Combe de Bertrand.
(6) Take the wide track to the right to Lac de Cournirau, which is hidden 100 metres to the right of the main path.
(7) The lake is actually a small pond, which dries up in summer. There is a splendid well made of local stone. Return to the track and follow it south to a T-junction.
(8) Turn left onto the track and pass a hunting lodge where you can picnic or take shelter. Continue along the track heading north-east.
(9) Follow the asphalt road to the left, which takes you back to the crossroads at the forest house you passed at the start.
(2) Turn right and you will soon reach the finish (S/E).
