Start: On leaving Villalier, heading towards Carcassonne (100m after the bridge), turn left and follow the signs for Les Cabanes dans les Bois®; this is the Chemin de Fourtou. You can park in the hotel car park.
(S/E) From the Cabanes reception, head towards the Orangeraie and continue straight on until you reach the path.
Turn right and cross the field diagonally after the fig tree to reach the vineyard, which you will follow on the left. Continue along the vineyard until you reach the road that descends to the left.
(1) Cross the Roman bridge at La Mée over the River Orbiel and continue straight on until you reach the D101.
(2) Follow it to the right, then turn left after the bridge. Follow the D37 to the first path on the right after a small wood.
(3) Turn left before the stone cross at the side of the path and follow it for about 500m.
(4) Turn onto the first path on the left, which climbs through the pine forest and will take you back to the path you were previously following. At the crossroads, turn right and continue for 100m.
(5) Turn right onto the dirt track and follow it.
(6) Take a short detour along the path on the right, which will lead you to a drystone shelter in the woods.
(7) At the top of Les Gardies, you will find the drystone shelter on your left. Head back down.
(6) Take the path on the right and head towards the pumping station.
(8) Just before the houses, turn right onto the Malves path, which will take you back to the stone cross.
(3) Take the D37 road on the left. At the next junction, turn right onto the D101 road towards Villalier.
(2) Turn left onto the road leading to Les Cabanes dans les Bois and follow it.
(9) Turn right into Allée du Château de Fourtou and head to the Cabanes reception area to enjoy a drink at the bar, if you wish (S/E).
