From Basse-Terre, take the N3 towards Saint-Claude, then the D11 towards La Soufrière. The car park is located at Les Bains-Jaunes.
(S/E) The Pas du Roy trail starts at the end of the baths. Take the paved path and cross the ravine (be careful of slippery paving stones), then continue along the path.
(1) At the intersection, leave the main path and follow the trail to the right towards Le Galion. The first part crosses a wetland and then winds its way between tree roots. Begin the gentle descent and take the last few bends with caution.
(2) Cross Le Galion and turn left at the intersection. Climb towards the waterfall; the last 100 metres must be climbed using a knotted rope (see photo).
(3) Arrive at the waterfall, where a dip under the cascade will be most welcome. Admire the view of Les Saintes. Turn around and return to the intersection.
Turn left onto the Armistice trail. It is a very steep slope with a 300-metre elevation gain and takes 1.5 hours to climb. There are many tricky sections before the next landmark, but fortunately, the task is made easier by notches cut into the rock, knotted ropes and numerous roots. The trail is very wet.
(4) At the top of La Citerne, turn left and join the tarmac road (viewpoint over Basse-Terre, the Monts Caraibes and Grande-Terre). Follow the road to the left, pass at the foot of La Soufrière and join La Savane à Mulets.
(5) Turn left onto the Pas du Roy trail and return to the starting point (S/E).
