Description of the walk

(S/E) Take the small road to Clos Vougeot. Ignore the road on the left leading to Passau and continue straight on along the tarmac road to Clos Vougeot. After about 1 km, leave the tarmac road on the right leading to Chauvière and continue straight on along the Chemin de la Mine. On the outskirts of the hamlet of Loze, ignore a road on the right.

(1) At the next junction, follow the road to the left and pass through the hamlet. Continue along this road for a long time.

(2) After a series of right-left bends, at the junction, take the path on the right (GR®41). Cross the Ruisseau de la Queugne. Continue for about 500 m.

(3) Leave theGR® on your right and take the path on your left. Cross the Ruisseau de la Queugne a second time, either by fording or using the footbridge. Continue up the path, then straight on along the tarmac road.

(4) At the junction with another road, take the path opposite across the fields. Follow it for 700 m, then continue left onto the tarmac road. Pass the houses.

(5) At the junction with the road, carry on straight ahead and follow the path through the fields towards the Sainte-Agathe Chapel. Follow thePR® andGR® signposts to the chapel. Cross a wide dirt track and carry on straight ahead. When you reach a Y-junction, turn left.

(6) When you reach the hamlet of Reterre, turn right onto the road. Pass the farm on your left, then, at the bend, take the second path on the right which leads uphill towards the chapel.

(7) Take the next path on the right to reach the foot of the chapel, then turn back.

(7) Take the path on the right again.

(8) At the next junction, by the cross, turn left. At the end of the path, you’ll return to the starting point (S/E).

A really lovely walking trail; in a few places, clearer signposting would be helpful, but otherwise it’s magnificent – we walked it in sunshine from start to finish. The finish at La Chapelle Sainte Agathe is spectacular, with an exceptional panoramic view taking in the Monts d’Auvergne and the Puy de Dôme; it was a shame for us that, despite the sunshine, the view wasn’t very clear in the distance.
