Gazeran circular route via the Rambouillet national estate

A circular walk offering varied and remarkable scenery on an easy route without too much elevation gain. You will discover the Etangs de la Tour, d'Or and du Perray lakes, the large green spaces that dominate the landscape with the Rambouillet national forest, and finally a visit to its château.

Description of the walk

The hike starts from Gazeran station, coming from Paris Montparnasse station on line N towards Chartres.

(S/E) From Gazeran station, walk along the car park and take the station residence.

(1) At the stop sign, turn left onto the D62, go through the roundabout and continue straight ahead with the transformer on your left. After the Route du Bray on the right, continue for about 200 metres until you reach a fork in the road.

(2) Turn right onto this path through the woods until you reach a road. Turn right onto Rue de l'Eglise and pass in front of the Saint-Germain d'Auxerre cemetery.

(3) Cross the La Guéville river and then the parking area on the right. At the monument on the small square, turn right onto Chemin du Général Humbert, which climbs slightly with the GR® 1 - GR® 655 and leads to the hamlet of Guéville.

(4) At the fork, continue straight ahead between the woods and fields.

(5) Enter the hamlet of Guéville, then turn right at the end. Cross the La Guéville river and walk along the reservoir for a few metres.

(6) At the crossroads, turn left between the fields and woods and you will come to a second reservoir. Pass in front of the water treatment plant, then turn left onto a road that leads to the D906.

(7) Turn slightly left and cross the road. Continue straight ahead on the Route de la Grille de Guéville. Pass the Bergerie Nationale equestrian centre and the former Maison Forestière de Mocquesouris forestry office, and continue to the car park at the Laiterie de la Reine crossroads.

(8) Turn right onto Allée Verte and follow the canal to the end of the park.

(9) Turn left onto Allée des Bois Blancs, then a little further on, turn right and walk along the Parc du Château de Rambouillet, exiting via the roundabout.

(10) After the Felix Faure roundabout, turn right onto Rue Chasles, cross the railway bridge and continue for a few metres.

(11) Turn right onto Rue des Eveuses towards the leisure centre. Go straight ahead at the crossroads and roundabout.

(12) Pass under the N10 and continue straight on Route des Eveuses. Walk alongside a car park, then enter the woods.

(13) Cross Route des Places, then Route de la Droue and continue to the pond.

(14) At Etang d'Or, turn right onto Rue du Château d'Eau with the GR®1 and follow it to a road. Turn left at the crossroads by the car park, then enter the woods on the right and leave the GR® 655 a little further on. Take a path on the right.

(15) At Route de Batonceau, turn right and you will arrive at the D936.

(16) Turn right onto Rue de la Droue and cross the bridge over the N10.

(17) At the roundabout, take the second left. Pass in front of a pond, follow the N10 for a short distance, then turn right into the fields. At the three-way junction, keep right to reach the D150, which you should continue to follow straight ahead until you reach the entrance to the woods.

(18) Leave the D150 and turn right into the woods. At the Mare du Cheval Blanc crossroads, go straight ahead, then turn right at the Carrefour de Poyers.

(19) Enter the hamlet of Batonceau, cross it and continue through the fields towards the water tower.

(20) Turn right onto the road to the water tower, then at the right-hand bend, turn left towards Gazeran station (S/E).

Notes

The path can be quite muddy in heavy rain between (18) and (19).

You can take the train back from Rambouillet at point (11).
