Description of the walk

Greenway car park, just after the waste collection point.

(S/E) Leaving the car park, take the path to the right of the post. Cross the ford and the Arre river to pass through the hamlet of Rognès until you reach the D999 road.

(1) Follow it to the right before crossing and climbing left towards the village of Les Gardettes. Climb up to the cross.

(2) Take the marked path on the left. The path climbs gradually to a short steep section.

(3) Climb this for about 100 metres on the right. It joins another path, which you should take on the left. Continue to the entrance to Esparon.

(4) You can climb up to the cross (return trip) and/or climb up to the chapel and the picturesque cemetery (return trip). The village square features a cross and a well-preserved communal oven. The path descends to the right just before the communal oven , passing a reproduction of a painting by Jean Dominique Ingres (The Sphinx). Cross two roads, one of which has a buried cross, and you will come to a fork.

(5) Take the track on the left and continue straight ahead towards Bez and Lasalle (signpost indicating "Col d'Esparon alt. 580 m"). You will come to a fork with a path on the left (return).

(6) Leave it and continue straight ahead on the track that leads to a large clearing on the right, which can be used for picnics.

(7) Return to the previous crossroads.

(6) Take the path on the right that descends to a crossroads (elevation 536) at the Merlanson stream.

(8) Begin a rough descent, crossed by several streams (there is water at least until March), including the Merlanson. Continue to the hamlet of Le Bosc.

(9) Caution: be sure to leave the track at the last house on a bend and take the signposted path on the right that passes to the right of the house (marked "le Bosc"). The sign is on the downspout on the far right of the house. The path follows the contour line to the hamlet of Lasalle, where you can see some beautiful restored traditional houses.

(10) Leave the road at the exit of Lasalle and take a wooden staircase that begins the descent towards Bez. Walk along the viaduct and turn right along the river until you reach the old bridge, 100 metres below.

(11) At the bridge, take the road that climbs up to the left and rejoin the D999, which you follow until you reach the "voie impériale" (imperial road).

(12) Follow this "voie impériale" to the end and rejoin the road.

(13) Cross the road on the right (D999) and join the access road to the village of Lasfons. Go down to the left towards the village, then cross the bridge over the Arre.

(14) In the village, after the fountain, find Rue de la Voie Verte, which climbs up to the road in question.

(15) Take this greenway on the left towards the east, towards Le Vigan, to return to the car park (S/E).

A beautiful hike, partly through a chestnut forest. Please note that between points 13 and 14, the path is no longer accessible as the landowner has blocked access with two new signs and a chain. You will therefore need to walk along the road to the hamlet of Rognès 1. This section of the route is dangerous, so please take great care.

A very pleasant route with lovely views. It's a shame that the signposting is rather haphazard, but with a good satnav it's fine!

The route indicated at the start of the car park and to reach the starting point from the road is not signposted and crosses private property, indicated by signs and barriers, presumably without permission. So, we walked along the road for quite a while on the way back to reach the car park.

Hike completed on 04/08/2025.
Total duration of the hike (including breaks and snacks): 6 hours 30 minutes, because you have to take the time to enjoy it..
Travel time: 3 hours 37 minutes
A very interesting and technical hike for forest hiking enthusiasts, with regular beautiful panoramic views and fairly challenging climbs.
My notes following a few questions:
-Start: Take the path immediately to the right of the signpost as you leave the car park.
-Between markers 5 and 6: There is no "fork" but a small path that branches off to the left of the main track and leads to the picnic area (photo).
-At marker 9: The access is indeed a very narrow path to the right of the last house. The sign is on the downspout on the far right of the house. A neighbour helped me find it.
-At marker 10: At the Lasalle exit, a tree is lying at the bottom of the wooden steps, making it difficult to pass underneath or over (photo).
-From Lasalle/Bez, a cap and water are essential as there is no shelter until you reach the car park.

Thanks to chephilor for this really nice hike!
