Description of the walk

Car park on Rue du Château in Koerich. A few spaces not far from the castle ruins. There is a chapel in front of the car park.

Blue flag markings

(S) With the ruins on your right, take the footpath. At the junction with Rue Principale, go straight on. Walk up Rue du Moulin and, at the junction on your right, you’ll find a religious stele. Continue to the next road on your right.

(1) Turn right towards the monument. Walk down the road and, where the surface changes, turn left for a short detour into a Natura 2000 site to see future terraced meadows formed by dry stone walls. Return to the dirt track and continue to the three-way junction. Turn left and then ignore the path on your right. Walk past the monument commemorating the Royal Air Force squadron.

(2) At the fork in the road, turn right until you reach a crossroads.

No signposting

(3) Turn left and join another path, which you follow to the right. Continue along the main path for about 700 m. You will pass through a section of woodland where a storm struck in 2014. Here you can see the forest regeneration.

(4) At the junction, take a look to your left at the view of an old sand quarry. Retrace your steps and continue along the path to the large crossroads. Turn left, head downhill and pass the entrance to the quarry.

(5) At the junction, turn right and, at the Fork in the road where there is a path on your left, head downhill.

Once at the bottom, keep to the right, following the Eisch. Walk out into the open and then back under the trees. Leave the woods and enjoy the view of Septfontaines and its castle. The path becomes a road at the farm. Walk past the cemetery and, at the road, turn left.

(6) Cross over the Eisch and look out for Follmillen on your right, a former oil and tannery mill. At the crossroads, continue straight on into Kierchewee/Rue de l’Église. On your left, you’ll see a religious plaque on the front of the house. Continue to the right, walk past the church and down the street to Septfontaines. At the junction, turn right and at the next one, continue left until thesecond road on the right.

(7) Turn right into the small Square Op der Geesebreck. Walk past the farmhouse and then cross the rubble-stone bridge. Climb up between two meadows and turn round halfway up to see the view of the castle. Enter the forest.

(8) Turn left and walk between the meadows and the forest. A path joins from your right. At the junction with a path leading back to the road, continue straight on. Further on, ignore the path on your right and, under the cover of the trees, walk alongside the meadows. Come out into the open and pass in front of a house. At the road, turn right, pass the campsite and walk along the road until you reach the forest path on your left.

(9) Take this path. Immediately after, at the T-junction, turn left and follow the main path for about 1 km until you reach a crossroads.

(10) Turn left. The dirt track becomes a road. At the junction, keep left and stay on the left at the next junction. Cross over the Eisch. At the N105, go up the street opposite, slightly to the left, straight on until the end.

(11) Walk up the dirt track next to the chalet. Turn left and then immediately right at the Fork in the road. Follow the forest path as it descends and continues to the left. Walk along the boundary of a property and, once back on a road, continue straight on until the bend.

(12) Continue straight ahead down the lane and pass a house. The path becomes a road. Walk down to the junction and turn left. Walk to the chapel on your left (E).

The Yellow Rectangle on a blue background (or yellow line on tree trunks) markings are often sporadic: for safety’s sake, use the GPX track over an OpenStreetMap hiking map.
