Description of the walk

Start : Behind Kilbirnie library, Ladysmith Road, Kilbirnie, North Ayrshire, Scotland (KA25 6AR) starting at the entrance to the carpark. Grid ref. NS 314 540 (What3Words ///cracks.loafing.stolen)

(S/E) Starting behind Kilbirnie Library at the entrance to the carpark walk South West toward the multi-use games area.

(1) Turning right, take the path adjacent to the games area which will now be on your left-hand side.

(2) At the fork keep left, the games area still on your left-hand side. Follow the path.

(3) Keep right at the next forked junction to carry on the path. Walk toward the stone circle that you will see ahead and to the left.

(4) At the junction opposite the stone circle turn sharp right to make your way up the slope. Carry on to the small crossroads.

(5) Turn right staying in the park (to the left is a housing estate). Follow the path until the next junction where you will turn right.

(2) At the next junction turn sharp left heading back towards the games area and starting point. Continue on the path, the games area directly on your right-hand side, back to the starting point (S/E).

Transport: The closest train station is Glengarnock approx 1 mile from the start point.
Bus stops are located adjacent to the library on the B780 (Ladysmith Road/Avils Place).

Facilities: The closest facilities are Kilbirnie library (Mon & Tues 10-1, 2-5; Weds Closed; Thurs 2-7; Fri 10-1, 2-4.30; Sat 10-12.30 call 01505 684218). There are a variety of shops and cafes in Kilbirnie town centre.

Terrain: This is an amenity park walk with well-maintained tarmac paths. There are some steeper gradients on this walk. There is ample seating.

Dog Policy: This is a good park for dog walkers.

Alternative: This walk can be extended to include nearby Vale Park and Kilbirnie Lochshore Park beyond that.
