Hidcote Manor Gloustershire Circular to Mickleton Hill Farm

Lovely walk in north Gloustershire from Hidcote Manor via Kiftscote Gardens, then Monacks Way, past Mickleton Hill Farm and returning via Diamond Way through Hidcote Boyce and back to Hidcote Manor. Occasionally, roe deer can be seen.

Description of the walk

(S/E) Start form the National Trust car park of Hidcote Manor Gardens follow entrance road to 'T' junction.

(1) At the T-junction close to entrance to Kiftsgate Garden turn left down road towards Chipping Campden, at left turn in road carry straight on road/track (not suitable for vehicles) continue on track until it comes to road.

(2) Turn right for short distance and then left at footpath.

(3) Turn left onto footpath to Mickleton Hills Farm, go around farm in an anticlockwise direction.

(4) Take the path through gate to the left and then across signposted field paths the other side.

(5) Take sharp turn to left to follow Diamond Way.

(6) Veer to right and over footbridge then cross two fields to reach a road. Cross the road with slight dogleg and continue straight across two fields. (I experienced difficulty finding footpath at road, an alternative is at the road to turn left to T-junction then turn right at next T-junction).

(7) At crossing footpaths turn left to join road by T-junction. continue on road to reach Hidcote Boyce centre.

(8) At the village centre turn right then as leaving Hidcote Boyce take footpath to left cross fields to eventually reach Hidcote Gardens and car park (S/E).

Worth a visit

The historical significance of Hidcote Manor is deeply rooted in its transformation by Major Lawrence Johnston. His vision for the garden was influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement, which emphasized individual craftsmanship and natural beauty. The garden's design features a series of "garden rooms," each with its own character and distinct planting scheme, created by using hedges, walls, and carefully placed vistas to enhance the experience of discovery. The garden's focal point is the gazebo, which serves as a central hub, and the large circular pool, edged with white roses, adds to the garden's visual appeal. The garden's layout and design have inspired countless garden enthusiasts and designers, making Hidcote Manor a significant landmark in the history of landscape architecture and gardening.
