Park in the town hall square in Châteauvilain.
Yellow markings along the route except between (1) and (2), then between (4) and (6).
(S/E) With your back to the town hall, follow Rue du Centre southwards. Ignore one turn-off on the right and two others on the left.
(1) Turn right onto the dirt track (Chemin Neuf) and go straight on until you reach the signpost marked “Étang Belle Étoile”.
(2) Turn sharply left to follow the edge of the pond, cross the Ruisseau Tonnebas and head back up onto the plateau. Pass the sewage treatment plant and come out onto the D56A.
(3) Cross this road with care, even though it is quiet, and continue straight on to the hamlet of Sibuet. Walk through the hamlet from one end to the other.
(4) At the last farm in the hamlet, leave the yellow markings and take the path on the left which climbs up into the woods. Continue straight on at the next crossroads to reach the top of the hill.
(5) On the descent, after an old building, take the dirt track on the right which later turns into a tarmac road. You will reach a crossroads.
(6) Turn left onto Chemin des Moles, from where you should have a lovely view. Continue northwards and cross the junction, going straight on along Chemin Vie Ferrée.
(7) At the next crossroads, turn left to walk alongside the stud farm, then the farmland. At the first fork, turn right between the fields. Pass a path on the left, then another on the right. At the next crossroads, turn right: yellow markings. Head down to the Cyné de Châteauvilain refuge: no cinema here, but a lovely hut for hunters and other nature lovers, with picnic tables and running water (potability not tested).
(8) Turn left and head back towards Châteauvilain.
(9) At the first junction with a tarmac road, continue straight ahead. At the next fork, turn left and head towards a four-way junction.
(10) Continue straight on towards the church, which you will not reach unless you turn right at the junction with the D56A. Turn left onto the D56A and head back towards the townhall. Admire the town’s very simple war memorial(S/E).
