The route followsGR® andPR® trails almost everywhere. Markings are fairly rare, but junctions and tricky sections are fairly well indicated.
YellowPR® markings
Park in the car park south of the village of Auribeau, signposted from the main street.
(S/E) Walk down from the car park along the access road and take the path on the left under the trees. Walk alongside the lavender fields. The path is paved at the start and then climbs a little more steeply. You will reach a good forest path just south of the Chapelle Saint-Pierre. Walk up the path on the left for a few dozen metres. At the end of the bend, take the path on the left which climbs and crosses the path. Climb up to the left of a small quarry. Return to the path at the next hairpin bend and follow it for a few metres before leaving it again.
ThePR® crosses the path one last time.
Not marked
(1) Follow this good path to the right, called Piste d'Auribeau, to the ridge. Very quickly, the view opens up to beautiful vistas to the north and north-west. Reach the Col d'Amourralhadou, with a cistern on the right.
YellowPR® markings
(2) Be careful here: complex crossroads of trails and farm tracks.
Take the third path on the right, which descends towards the south-west. Don't miss the fork in the path 150 metres ahead, a few metres before a small aqueduct (visible on the right of the path). This path is marked by a small cairn andPR® signposts. Begin a fairly steep descent through the Vallon de la Glacière.
Reach the bottom of the thalweg at a place called Vallon de la Fayette, where you will meet theGR®9.
Red and whiteGR® markings
(3) Vallon de la Fayette: Be careful here, as it is tempting to continue straight ahead on the wide path.
Turn left onto theGR® trail, which is clearly marked. Continue down a long descent, then climb back up a well-marked path, which is sometimes eroded into a small, steep-sided gully. Continue alternating between ascents and descents to reach the trail junction at Vallat de la Mayre.
(4) Please note: you must then turn sharply and take the path that climbs back up towards the north. Climb up before turning right downhill. The path turns into a track near the Fermes les Courbons, which you will hear from the crowing of roosters and the barking of dogs as you approach.
Follow this track through a beautiful pine forest, which improves in quality as you progress. You will arrive at a crossroads of forest tracks on a sort of pass.
(5) Turn left to reach the Couleton crossroads, a sort of sandy clearing in the pine forest.
(6) Leave thePR® which branches off to the right (barrier) and continue straight ahead towards the north-west on theGR® which climbs more or less in a straight line in the first section before making a few large zigzags on the south slope of the Luberon, which becomes steeper. You will come out on the ridge at the Col La Basse des Cabrières.
(7) Turn left, west, and follow the ridge on theGR®92. Beautiful views over long, open sections. Arrive at a pass at the foot of the Luberon summit, Le Mourre Nègre. Climb to the summit for the view and return to the pass.
(8) Find the right path and follow it to the pass junction before Jas Brémont.
YellowPR® markings
(9) At the pass, just before crossing a power line, take the path that descends rapidly to the right, almost due north. It is not very visible and the markings are almost completely faded, but the path, which descends quite steeply, is easy to follow. After a large curve to the left, join the Vallon de la Font Jean de Martin.
Descend to reach a long rocky bench on the left and the end of aPR® trail on the right. After the rocky outcrop, take a long curve to the left to quickly reach two houses just before the car park (S/E).
Beautiful hike, reliable advice. A steep climb at the start, but the view at the end is superb.
