Completed from 27 June to 4 July 2011, with 4 hikers, 2 tents, in almost complete autonomy (food provided for 7 days, only bread and a few items were purchased along the route).
The cable car and bus were used to shorten some stages and we needed about a day more to complete the Brévent balcony opposite the Mont Blanc massif.
The return to the starting point will be by public transport, bus or train...

Third stage of the Tour du Mont Blanc. Starting from Arpnouva. The hike begins with a magnificent ascent up the glacial valley to the Refuge Elena. The path climbs steeply to the Col Ferre, which is the highest point of the day. The descent is straightforward on the Swiss side to the Refuge de la Peule, a lovely little stop-off amidst the cows. The descent follows a track suitable for vehicles, with the option to cut across some of the hairpin bends through cow pastures. There is also a ford to cross. A refuge a little further up offers a chance for a short break. The rest of the route, which is straightforward, offers beautiful views of the glaciers. The hike ends on the road and finishes in La Fouly.

This 6th stage of the TMB continues to follow the stream Dora di Ferret from high up before dropping into the valley, for a while. From below the Pré de Bard Damon and all the way up to the Grand Col Ferret the ascent is almost 500m. Here the route enters Switzerland and it's pretty much downhill, around La Dotse to follow the stream Dranse de Ferret into La Fouly. This seven-stage trek around Les Combins differs in a few ways from the classic tour. It allows you to hike in complete tranquillity in a sumptuous and diverse setting between the mid- and high-mountain ranges, where you will climb to over 3,000 metres. You will encounter dozens of marmots, ibex and herds of Herens cows. A few remnants of glaciers add to the alpine atmosphere of this trek, whose highest point is the Col du Mont Gelé at 3,144 metres.

It’s the last day. The descent from the Col de Malatra is magnificent. It’s the last pass at almost 3,000 metres. You can see the path from afar, winding up the mountainside. After that, the solitude will be over. We rejoin the TMB from the Bonatti Refuge and its throng of hikers. The descent towards Courmayeur is superb, but once you reach the tarmac, it’s a very long way.
