On the RD986, coming from Saint-Gély-du-Fesc, at the roundabout, turn left towards Viols-en-Laval. After 2 km, look for the Château de Cambous on your right, continue for 500 m and turn right towards the Roussières departmental estate. Follow the sign for "parking".
(S/E) Take the path south-west of the car park, follow it north for 250 m and cross the RD32.
After the barrier, the path turns west and, 250 m later, passes close to a karstic cave.
(1) After this karstic cave (which you can descend with some caution), continue for 100 m, turn left (yellowPR® sign) and cross the access road to the Cazarils estate (2 barriers).
Head west along this pleasant path until you reach the next crossroads.
(2) At the crossroads (picnic table), turn right, heading north (red and yellowGRP® signposting) and follow the rocky drovers' road to the Dolmen de la Draille.
(3) A passageway of slabs allows you to enter (or rather crawl) into the oval chamber.
Follow this drovers' road north for about 100 metres until you reach a stone marker. 10 metres after this, turn right (PR® signpost) and walk back to the Neolithic tombs located 150 metres away. The two tombs are 80 metres apart. Follow the PR® trail.
(4) At the second, turn back to the drovers' road and take it on the right (GRP®).
Follow this stony track northwards until it joins the track suitable for vehicles.
Continue along this track in the same direction; at the green barrier, go straight ahead. After 350 m, make a small detour towards the lavogne (or lavagne) - a sheep trough - which can be seen on the right.
The track then climbs towards the Cazarils estate.
(5) At the Y-junction, follow the path on the right which climbs up and comes to an enclosure 50 m further on.
Note the pretty well inside the enclosure (vegetable garden) before heading down to the right on the path that loops north-east. Ignore the track on the right and continue downhill for 200 metres.
Just before the well (secured by a gate at ground level), leave the road and take the path on the left.
After 100 m, ignore a track that descends to the left and continue down the path towards the north-east.
At the bottom of the descent, at the crossroads, take the path opposite that goes uphill, makes two hairpin bends before continuing along the ridge, heading east.
At the wooden stake sealed in concrete, continue east on the ridge path along the edge of a conifer plantation on the left. When the path descends, turn right onto the path blocked by three rocks and descend until you reach the departmental road.
(6) Cross the RD32 and take the path parallel to the road about ten metres away.
It then leaves the road and splits into a Y with a large wooden stake; take the left fork. After 200 m, at another wooden stake, turn left and continue for 100 m, heading north, then follow the path lined with 5 or 6 small cairns to the right.
The route continues here through pretty woodland and reaches a cross near the Fontaine de Termenou. Go around it on the right to discover the spring.
(7) At the fountain, take the path you left at the cross and follow it eastwards to climb up to the pass 350 m away, where you will be rewarded with a magnificent view of Pic Saint-Loup and Hortus. Continue climbing to the right to discover a beautiful panoramic view of the Cévennes at the summit.
The very stony path then descends. When you reach the RD986 road, keep to the right, follow the road and join it where the path crosses it before turning off. Just opposite the junction with the RD122E8, turn right towards the south-west. In April, this is the kingdom of asphodels...
To the left of the path, raised hunting stands named P1, P2, etc. have been installed. 20 m after stand P7, look for a cairn on the left that marks the start of a path. A multitude of small cairns mark this path, which leads to the Gennevaux karstic cave 100 m away. Be careful - this is an 18-metre-deep well (unsecured) which provides access to the cave of the same name.
Retrace your steps and turn left to rejoin the path. After 250 m, it opens out into a much more open area.
(8) At the small cairn, turn left onto the path that leads into the undergrowth.
Follow this path, which winds through the oak woods and then passes in front of a karstic cave secured by a gate at ground level.
After 160 m, old red and white markings on a large stone on the ground indicate the start of a path on the left. Ignore it and continue for 250 m.
Look for an old red mark on a rock and a cairn. Take the path that branches off to the right; it leads to the entrance of the Vidal cave 40 m away. It is possible to access this cave , but be careful.
Return to the path, towards the cairn, and continue to the right.
On the map, the route passes very close to the Vidal karstic cave. Its entrance has been blocked.
Continue through the forest on the clearly visible path. The path splits into a Y with a small cairn: take the left fork, continue for 30 m and, at another small cairn, turn left again towards the south-east. The path crosses a clearing and, shortly afterwards, joins a large track.
(9) Follow it to the left and, at the cairn, turn right, skirting the holm oak groves. After 250 m, the circuit leads to the archaeological site.
(10) In front of the gate to the prehistoric village of Cambous, turn right, heading west, onto the path that leads to a beautiful wash house 400 m further on.
(11) Opposite this, take the path heading south and 40 m after the wooden barrier, just before the corner of the two walls, take the path on the right which runs along the entire north wall of the Château de Cambous. Continue to an old corner tower then gradually descend to the bottom of the slope where the path meets the "circuit des drovers' roads" (yellowPR® signposting).
Turn left onto this circuit; the signs will lead you to the Roussières departmental estate.
(12) Enter the Roussières departmental estate, cross the courtyard and pass under the porch before turning left to reach the starting point (S/E).
