Park in Cazevieille, where there are two car parks:
- in the large car park just outside Cazevieille. This is the car park chosen as the starting point for this hike.
- in the village centre, if there is space, as it is more conveniently located for this hike.
It is located about 100 metres after the town hall, on the left at the sign for "L'entre 2 verres".
From this car park, head north along the Chemin de Tourrière, which runs alongside it.
(S/E) Take a path to the north-west of the car park, leave it on your right and take the Chemin de Tourrière (small road). Leave the access to Tourrière on your left and continue straight ahead on the small stony path.
(1) To locate this point, you will see two blue paint marks on a stone on the ground on your right, a yellow marker set back a little and, finally, a little higher up on the rock face, two large red letters A.
- Option 1: Pass between the two letters A. A path leads from this point to point 2. About 20 metres further up, ignore a short path on the right and continue north. It is not shown on the IGN map but is on the OpenstreetMap. It is clear and easy to follow. This is the route we recommend.
- Option 2: If you prefer to go through the forest, continue along the marked path. About a hundred metres further on, in the woods, a cairn indicates two other possible paths.
- On the right is the path shown on the IGN map. This is the route we recommend. It is passable, unmaintained and difficult to spot, but there are no problems with orientation.
- On the left, the path veers slightly to the west. It is in better condition and marked by cairns and sometimes red dots on stones. It climbs slightly above point 2 and then descends to rejoin the other two paths.
Be careful, as some paths branching off to the left will take you away from point 2.
These three paths rejoin at point 2 near the highest point of the route (altitude 375).
The distance between points 1 and 2 is approximately 400 metres.
(3) From this point, the view opens up, allowing you to admire the Cévennes to the north and the Hortus to the east.
The descent to the next point begins with a stony, winding path for a few hundred metres, which can be slippery if it has rained, but then becomes very pleasant and easy.
You will reach a three-way junction that is not marked on the IGN map, but where a blue arrow painted on a rock indicates that you should take the left-hand path. This will easily take you to a wider path.
(4) Follow this path to the left. Keep heading west. Further on, you will come to a barrier. Lift the chain and remember to put it back in place.
(5) A path on the right leads to Lac de la Jasse, which is not included in the hike. A cairn on the right and a rocky cliff mark this path. Continue on the path, keeping to the left.
(6) A second path on the right leads to Lac de la Jasse, which is not included in the hike. If you walk around Lac de la Jasse, you will return to the trail.
(1) Continue along the Ruisseau du Patus. However, be careful: after heavy rain, the stream may have overflowed onto the path in places. This is important to bear in mind before setting off on this hike.
Join the D122E8 road and theGR®60.
Between points 6 and 7, the path climbs and there is no shade. Make sure you take plenty of drinks with you in hot weather.
(7) Turn left at a 180° bend onto theGR®60. Keep to this path, heading east then south-east, and look out for a path on the left.
(8) Take this small path towards Cazevieille. It is very pleasant and leads to a vacant lot between Tourrière to the north and a house to the south. It joins the Tourrière path at the corner of the south-facing house. Turn right, then a little further down, turn left onto the path you took on the way up to return to the large car park or continue straight ahead to the car park in the village centre (S/E).
Be careful on the way back, as the route crosses private land and needs to be changed.
