The route description is based on that described by Chassaignon.
(S/E) In Argis, take the road that climbs between the post office and the school. At the first T-junction, turn right and then take the first tarmac lane on the left, following the signposting for “Évosges/Site d’escalade/Rocher de Narse”. Continue along a fairly steep stony path which turns into a trail under the trees and leads you to Évosges. As you approach the first houses of Évosges, at an iron cross, ignore a small road on the left and shortly afterwards you will reach a junction with a path on the right.
(1) Continue straight ahead.
(2) At the wash house, turn left to join the main street at Place Jacquemet (Rue du 6 et 7 Février 1944) and follow it to the left until you reach the square where you will find a "workstation" for shoeing oxen. Turn left and follow the road to the right of the church, go round the lake on the left and then take the road.
(3) After the Col d’Évosges, stay on the road until just past the second hairpin bend to the right. Take the path that starts on the left a few metres after the bend.
Follow the path, cross the road and rejoin the path which starts again a few metres to the right, continuing past the picnic table.
Take the path on the right which descends towards Oncieu.
(4) Reach the D34 and turn left, then, at the next junction, turn right to go round the village.
(5) On the other side of the village, turn right and follow a local path (no entry sign). Go downhill, cross the D34 and then go back up on the opposite side.
(6) There is a picnic spot at the top of the climb on the bench at the foot of a cross, with a lovely view over the St-Rambert-en-Bugey valley. Continue along this path to a fork at La Douay.
(7) Take the path on the right that leads downhill (signposted: Argis=1.4km). Continue to Argis and back to the starting point.
(S/E) For the second part of the circular route, take the road again that climbs between the post office and the school. When you reach the spot where you took the lane climbing to the left, continue to the right until the end of the tarmac road (dead end).
(8) Take the path that climbs to the left of the houses. About 400m after the hairpin bend, you’ll come across a path marked in blue
(9) Follow it to the right. After a steep climb, you will reach a clearing.
(10) Take the first path on the left (blue markings) which leads into the forest. This path crosses the forest and also comes out into a clearing.
(11) Walk along the edge of the clearing on the left until you reach the television transmitter.
(12) Follow the road to the left for about 300m, then take the first marked path on the left. Follow it to the first houses in Évosges.
(1) Turn left and follow the path you took to reach Évosges during the first circular loop.
(13) At the edge of the woods, turn right and follow the path which will take you back to your starting point (S/E). The descent along the stony path is tough, with 6 hours of walking already under your belt.
