Town hall car park.
(S/E) With your back to the Town Hall, head towards the war memorial and walk up to go round the imposing 14th-century Notre-Dame Church. Inside the church grounds, three panels commemorate Pierre Loti’s stay in this town, where he wrote his book “Mon frère, Yves” (See “During the walk”).
Go down a few steps and join the path that circles the first pond.
(1) Follow this path to the right, which is lined with numerous benches and information boards, and walk around the first pond, which is dominated to the north by the Paris-Quimper railway line (fence).
(2) Go under the railway line and turn right to begin the walk around the second pond, which is still overlooked by the railway line (fence).
(3) At a bench and an information board about the ponds, turn left to continue along the pond. Numerous benches and picnic tables line this shaded section, which offers a beautiful view of the church reflected in the pond. Many birds also gather in this shallower part.
Reach the Greenway and follow it to the right for a few metres.
(4) Turn left off the Voie Verte towards the third pond and turn left at the first fork. Just before a small footbridge, turn right heading north. Follow this path, bordered on the left by a stream which is none other than the Aven, which later flows through Pont-Aven, the town of painters, and on the right by a very dense wetland. The path is marked with small signposts indicating the distance every 100 m in both directions. Ignore the first path leading uphill to the left (sign: ‘no hunting’).
(5) Take a sharp left-hand bend onto this grassy path. At the top, veer right towards a shed. At the small country road, turn left, leaving Névars Izella on your right. Follow this small road and pass the hamlet of Névars Huella (No. 2 on the sign)
At the electricity substation on the left and the rubbish bin on the right, turn right onto a tarmac path to join the Greenway.
(6) Turn left and follow the old Concarneau-Roscoff railway line straight ahead. Pass under two sets of power lines and arrive at an inconspicuous MTB marker post on the left.
(7) Turn left onto this grassy track, then, at the road, first turn left then right to continue along a track used by farm machinery (MTB signpost). This section is often muddy but can be bypassed by walking along the edge of the field on the right. Continue straight on, descending towards a ford (a stream flowing into the Aven) which you cross via a rustic footbridge, then climb back up to a road.
(8) Opposite a large house, turn right and follow the small road that passes near Kervatal and leads to the D782.
(9) Cross this road with care, then turn immediately left onto a poorly maintained grassy track. Pass behind Rubian Farm and climb the embankment to rejoin the Greenway, which you follow to the right towards the old Locjean station (information boards).
(10) Continue straight on for about 1 km, crossing the D782 with care (former level crossing).
(7) Turn right onto the grassy path you took on the way out and onto the road, turn left and follow this small road, passing under the two power lines again. Look out for a wide grassy path on the left between some houses (not shown on the IGN map). It joins another tarmac road leading to the Voie Verte.
(6) Turn right and continue along this old railway line for about 1.5 km. This section of the track is more sunken and also more shaded.
(4) Pass the end of the second pond and, about 400m further on, turn left to continue alongside it. Pass under the railway line again and join the car park on the right (S/E).
