The starting point for this hike is at the Colombier de Laives (currently undergoing renovation). Coming from Sennecey-le-Grand, the Colombier and the car park are on the left at the entrance to Laives. Coming from Varennes-le-Grand, drive through the village and you will find the car park on the right. There is a hiking car park on Rue du Centre next to the church.
(1) Walk past the Colombier and take the path on the left. At the first intersection, turn right (GR®) then left onto Rue Montée de Lenoux. Continue to the Chapelle de Lenoux. Keep going straight until you reach the Porche des Antonins (in a cul-de-sac on your left). Turn around and turn left onto Rue de la Motte. Follow this street until you reach the stop sign. At the stop sign, turn left, then left again onto Rue de la Ruée (a large fountain).
(2) Turn right onto Rue des Fontaines (you will see a wash house on your left, which is unfortunately closed). At the first fountain and drinking trough, take the grassy path between the fountain and the drinking trough on your left, which will lead you to the wash house. At the wash house, follow the grassy path to the road.
(3) Turn left onto Rue de Moisson. At the next intersection, turn right, walk past the houses and take the path at the last house. Go up this path, at the crossroads of two paths, take the one on the right and stay on it until you reach the road. Go up this road, you will pass a motocross track and then the road turns into a path.
(4) At the bend, turn left onto the path and right at the next junction (tractor tyres lying on their sides) and take the path on the right and go down it. Walk alongside a vineyard on your left.
(5) At the end of the track, turn right, then left 50 metres after a large tree (sign explaining this Montceaux-Ragny discovery trail). Follow this path to the cross. Turn right and continue to the next cross.
(6) Take the road and turn left into a small street to go to the chapel (aPR® cross on a sign in the alley). Turn left, go down this street and turn left before the telephone box to go to the wash house. At the wash house, turn around and turn left. Pass in front of the Montceaux town hall and follow the signs to the Théâtre de verdure.
(7) At the bend, take the path on the left and follow this path on the right which leads you to the Théâtre de verdure (you are on the theatre stage). Cross it to the main entrance and turn left, then left again to take the path. Follow this path, at the fork, take the path on the right and follow it without leaving it.
(8) Turn right at a stone with a blue arrow. Turn left at the next junction to take a forest path. Go downhill and turn right at the junction. Follow this path and turn left onto the road.
(9) Turn left (there is a farm building opposite) onto Rue des Foins and turn right at the fountain (towards Mancey - Rue des Maquisards). Pass a wash house and a riding centre.
(10) In the bend, turn left onto the grassy path that climbs just after a walnut tree. Turn left, you are now on theGR®76AChemin des Moines.
(11) There are a few changes tothe GR® compared to the IGN map (markings are minimal but present at each intersection).
(12) Pass the ruins of Saint-Germain Church with a yellow information sign.
(13) You will come to a junction with signposts. Take the path on the left towards Saint-Martin - Chemin des Moines. Walk alongside the Nantoux quarries. At a telephone relay antenna and a barrier, go down the path to the signpost.
(14) Turn left and follow this path, which is theGR® trail, down to the shooting range (change to theGR® trail compared to the map). At the shooting range, turn right and, 50 metres further on, turn left. Leave theGR® and follow this path down to the small pond. At the pond, turn right towards the park entrance (you can either take the park path or cut across the park).
(15) Turn left then right. Follow the road and go straight ahead on the farm track to take the first path on the left (sign saying "No vehicles"). Follow the path opposite (a wooden barrier prevents vehicle access). Pass a ruin on the left and an iron cross on the right. At the end of the path, you will arrive at the Church of Saint-Martin de Laives. Look for the first orientation table with a beautiful view. Turn left just after the church and right at the end of the low wall (stone picnic table behind the church). Follow the path that leads you to a second orientation table. Stay on this main path (GR®).
(16) At the crossroads (a broken signpost), turn left and, at the undergrowth, take care as there is a very steep 100-metre descent. At the end of this descent, go straight ahead and turn right at the next crossroads, following theGR®. Continue straight ahead and turn right at the road.
You are now in the car park. Continue straight ahead and turn left at the first street. You will see the wash house on your right. This is the ideal place to relax at the end of your hike. Turn around and return to your vehicle.
