Start from the Maquis de Vareilles (café-grocery shop-second-hand shop-bookshop).
(S/E) Head towards Chigy.
(1) At the church, turn left onto Ruelle du Prieuré (former priory). Before the footbridge, take a look at the Moulin d'en bas with its sluice gates. Cross the footbridge and, at the junction with the road, turn right. Continue straight on along Rue des Prés, then follow the path.
(2) Continue past the Ferme des Prés (listed dovecote). At the junction with the Eaux de Paris pipeline, turn right.
Cross the Ru de Vareilles via the footbridge and continue for 200 m.
(3) Take the path on the left. At the end, turn left then cross the Ru de Vareilles again (bridge).
Continue to Pont-sur-Vanne.
(4) Turn right onto Rue de la Vanne, then Rue du Paradis, and continue to the bridge over the Vanne.
(5) Take the path on the right just after the bridge and follow the old railway line (Sens–Troyes) to Chigy. Follow the path through the forest along the banks of the Vanne, working your way round a few fallen trees. Bamboo grove on your right.
(6) Pass the abandoned old Chigy station (memorial). Turn right onto Rue de la Grenouillère until you reach the bridge over the Vanne. Turn left immediately after the bridge.
(7) Take a look at the Eaux de Paris pumping station, as well as the drinking trough and the sheep wash.
(8) At the corner by the church, turn left onto Rue du Guichet. At the end, turn right onto Rue du Chemin de Ronde. At the next junction, turn right onto Rue à Servais. At the end, turn right.
(9) Take thefirst left, Ruelle de la Cour Fusée. At the end, continue left onto Grande Rue. Before the bridge, turn left onto Rue des Vieilles Chènevières.
(10) Turn right onto Rue des Presles. Take the first left. Continue to the T-junction.
(11) Turn right and follow the Eaux de Paris fence (Source du Marois). Continue straight on along the Eaux de Paris pipeline.
(12) At the Noues junction, take the tarmac road on the left.
(13) Pass the Fontaine Saint-Léger and, at the entrance to Vareilles, turn right.
(1) At the church, continue left and head towards the centre (S/E).
