Between Cénac and Céou

Hike through varied countryside landscapes between the heights of Cénac and the Céou valley. The route avoids tarmac roads as much as possible, mostly following paths through the woods and combining PR® trails marked in yellow. Beautiful views of Domme and the Céou Valley.

Description of the walk

Park along the Route des Vignes Hautes, on the left-hand side going uphill: take care not to obstruct traffic.

Yellow markings

(S/E) Take the path on the left, through the woods, which leads to Route des Teyssiers, at the entrance to the hamlet.

(1) Turn right to cross it and reach a crossroads. Cross, head left towards Valade and walk for about 100 m.

(2) Follow the path to the right towards La Brande and continue straight ahead at each fork.

(3) Before reaching Cantegrel, turn right, following the signs. You will come to a road; follow it to the left to cross the hamlet of La Brande.

(4) Once you have left the hamlet, take the road on the right and then turn right again a few dozen metres further on, following a track that runs alongside a farm on the left. Go through a gate and follow this track northwards, which descends through fields and then through woodland towards the Céou valley.

(5) When you reach the tarmac road below Pech de Cayre, first turn left then right, pass a masonry spring and follow the road north for about 300 metres. Take the right-hand bend before taking a track on the left that climbs through the woods to a characteristic Périgord pigeon loft.

(6) Continue along the track before rejoining a tarmac road and continuing straight on to Lugat, where you will come to a crossroads.

(7) Take the Route des Vignes Hautes opposite to descend back to the car park (S/E).

A superb, idyllic route through the Périgord countryside, this walk offers a variety of landscapes – woodland, fields and lovely views – and is mostly shaded, with no dangerous tarmac sections; the few small roads are charming.
There are no ‘must-see’ sites for those desperate to take photos.
Thanks to the author for this discovery 🙏
