Departure from the 9 écluses car park.
(S/E) From the car park, take the wooden ramp and join the Canal du Midi towpath. Continue to the tourist information office and walk down the 9 locks of Fonseranes.
(1) Continue straight ahead on the promenade along the canal on the Port Notre-Dame quay. Walk 700 metres and cross Avenue du Port Notre-Dame (pedestrian crossing), then continue along the quay. Next, cross Avenue de Sérignan (pedestrian crossing) and continue along the quay until you reach the Orb river.
(2) Turn left and go under the first bridge, with a view of Saint-Nazaire Cathedral on your right. After going under the second bridge, walk 50 metres and then turn left. Go up the stairs, turn left into the park and then exit.
(3) Take the left-hand pavement, cross the Orb and, at the end, pass two streets on your left.
(4) Continue along Rue de l'Orb and at the top, use the pedestrian crossing to reach Rue Canterelles on the right.
Walk 130 metres, then turn left onto Passage Canterelles. Zigzag your way to Plan Canterellette (panoramic view on the way there and back).
Take the narrow path to a small square, then turn left onto Rue Auguste Fabregat. Follow this winding street to Place de la Révolution.
(5) Continue straight ahead along the Saint-Nazaire Cathedral.
Don't miss the climb up the bell tower; information is available in the cathedral. At the rear of the cathedral, you can access the Jardin des Évêques.
Then continue along Promenade Jacques Hamel (orientation table). With your back to the orientation table, take Rue Boulard and at the end, Place des Bons Amis, turn left onto Rue Viennet. At Place des Trois Six, turn left, pass in front of the tourist information office and cross the avenue.
(6) From Place Gabriel Péri, to the right of the town hall, take Rue du 4 Septembre. At the end, turn right down Allées Paul Riquet and walk 500 metres.
(7) Cross Avenue Maréchal Joffre and enter the public garden, Plateau des Poètes. Follow the main path downhill to the war memorial. After passing through the gates, walk carefully on the left-hand pavement of Boulevard de Verdun .
Use the pedestrian crossings around the roundabout, then cross the tunnel on the left-hand pavement under the railway tracks. At the second roundabout, continue straight ahead (pedestrian crossing) onto Rue des Péniches.
(8) At the end, take the towpath of the Canal du Midi and turn right along the boat house. Walk 400 m along Quai Port Neuf and at the end, take an uphill track to join the towpath and follow the Canal du Midi.
(9) Cross the Canal Bridge over the Orb and walk 1 km. Pass under the footbridge and over a lock.
(1) Go up to the left along the 9 locks of Fonseranes, walk along the Canal du Midi, then take the wooden ramp on the right to reach the car park (S/E).
