Between woods and mining riders in Bruay-la-Buissière

This circular hike offers a superb hike that combines mining history, nature and redevelopment. You will take an old mining railway line (a former railway line used to transport coal) that crosses the Bois des Dames to take you to the Chartreuse des Dames in Gosnay.

Description of the route

Departure from the Relais VTT du Parc Lavolville in Bruay-la-Buissière. Yellow markings no. 18.

(S/E) Take the path heading north-east along the road, then take a long right turn (do not continue straight on theGR®). This is the old mine bridge. After a 90° left turn, continue along the path that leads to La Chartreuse.

(1) Walk along the Chartreuse on the right and, at the intersection, go straight ahead. Continue on a small path to the right before the construction site, which is closed to the public. Continue along the path and enter the Bois des Dames.

(2) At the end of this path, turn right, then left to walk along the motorway and turn left.

(3) Cross the road and continue along the path opposite, which runs alongside the road on the right for a while, then turns left to follow the motorway again.

(4) At the intersection, take Rue Pasteur opposite, then turn right at the next intersection onto Rue Paul Vaillant Couturier and continue along the road, Rue Verte.

(5) At the end, turn left onto the D181E5 and follow the road for about 1 km.

(6) Turn right at the first road.

(7) After the last houses, enter the Bois des Dames again by turning right at the three-way junction.

(8) Pass a bus shelter and continue straight ahead on narrower paths. Cut across a path and continue to the next crossroads.

(9) Turn left, then right.

(10) At the end of the path, turn left, then right at the next intersection. Exit the woods and join a road.

(11) Turn left, then left again, take the passage under the road to the right, then turn left to return to the starting point (S/E).

A beautiful hike, I did it twice in two days. I took the wrong path on the first day because the signposts were broken after passing behind Emmaus and I didn't have a map.
So I decided to do the route again the next day, and this time I took the right route by turning left at the burnt field (I had gone straight on the day before).
There is a short stretch of tarmac at Labeuvrière before you re-enter the Bois des Dames, but overall it's a pleasant hike.

A beautiful and quite varied hike. Be sure to follow the map provided, as you may sometimes find yourself wondering where to go, as some paths are blocked but remain accessible from the sides.

Nice walk.
A little too easy for my taste. (I had to do it twice to be completely satisfied.)

A lovely walk in the heart of the Bois des Dames and surrounding area. The climbs are not too difficult and the descents are a delight. Thank you.

Superb hike in the undergrowth of the Bois des Dames. Beautiful nature hike on forest paths in excellent condition. Discovery and beautiful conversion of mining heritage. One small downside: the route follows the motorway for a while and is therefore more monotonous.
