Description of the walk

Park at the Seznec Chapel, on the Quimper-Plogonnec road, approximately 5 km from Quimper.

(S/E) With your back to the chapel, head towards the D39, cross it carefully and follow the road opposite until you see the sign for Kergréac’h.

(1) Turn left towards this farm. The route continues along a marked path (GR®®38) which crosses a wooded area overlooking the River Steïr, a tributary of the Odet. Follow this path until you reach a road.

(2) Then turn left and then right just before the railway line. Follow this stretch of road until it meets the D63, which you take to the right. Pass Toull Trinc and then turn left to join the greenway (the former Quimper-Douarnenez railway line).

(3) Turning right, follow this wide track, which is also used by cyclists. You will cross your first road (barrier). Continue to the Moulin de Saint-Alouarn, where you leave the greenway.

(4) Continue straight on to reach the ruins of the Manoir de Saint-Alouarn (16th–17th century).

(5) Retrace your steps back to the mill.

(4) Turn left and, after the pond on the left, turn right again to follow a road to the next hairpin bend.

(6) Head up to the left onto the D63 and follow it. Pass Ty Faou and arrive at the Chemin du Manoir de Keranguily

(7) Leave the road to the right and immediately turn left onto a wide stony track leading to the Lorette residence, which ends in a tarmac road.

(8) When you reach a road, turn left and head uphill to the junction of three roads.

(9) Take the right-hand road to reach the Kergréac’h junction.

(1: Join the outbound route and follow it in the opposite direction back to the starting point)S/E::.

Greenway

Saint-Alouarn Mill: an old feudal mill with its dormer window featuring a blooming finial.

Ruins of the Saint-Alouarn Manor (16th–17th century). In 1596, the bandit La Fontenelle took over the manor, and supporters of the monarchy set it alight in 1597. The main building was restored in 1656. This date is engraved on the sundial in the tower.

A hilly route through the countryside with a lovely stretch through the woods between checkpoints 1 and 2.
A bit of mud on the first part of the GR (between 1 and 2), but it is winter after all.
There is indeed tarmac on the way back, but you have to complete the circular route.
A nice surprise at the end: woodland, the greenway, and a mill well worth a detour.
I disagree with the first comment, which suggests that the route follows only roads.

I’m sorry I didn’t meet your expectations.

I thought that the introduction: “Along country lanes, wooded paths and the old railway line converted into a cycle path, let’s go and see the old feudal mill at Saint-Alouarn.” gave a clear enough idea of the route.

Besides, opinions on a countryside walk are always a bit hit and miss: you either like it or you don’t.
Personally, I also enjoy discovering the peace and quiet of the countryside.

Best regards.

This walk isn’t for us, as we don’t like walking on tarmac.
The route: start-1-2-8-7-6-5 is done by car (with a short section of road reserved for residents)
2 to 3: starts on tarmac and ends with 3-4 tarmac sections.
So this hike isn’t for us.
As for the countryside, same story – better elsewhere, not much to see
